Yeah I bounced this idea off of Pat at EJS... It would def get the wait down.
This is the direction. It's time. The question will be how much of the frame, if any, to leave (depends on if I ever enter racing/off-road events, and of course what type of events).

The rear tub has to go. It gets in the way in tight corners. bob and I are discussing what overall length/wheelbase makes sense.

The other thing we will look at is HP. Not sure if or when i will up it. I'd like to, but I'll have to wait and see.

I'm probably going to switch Rex's "Colors" over to 001 (hood, doors), and 001 can become Rex 2.

Decisions, decisions

Lol ya I'm the same way. I've been in the rock crawling/desert scene since i was a baby so its not even really an addiction for me, its my lifestyle. I spent the first 18 Thanksgivings of my life in the sand dunes lol, those were the days. Now I'm bringing up my kids to be the same way. My daughter loves the desert, Jeeps, and motorcycles, she is getting her first quad this xmas, i can't wait! Lol

I like the people I meet. I love being out in the back country. I love doing both scenic and bad ass trails. Its such a great way to get away mentally. The problems to overcome on the trail are "here and now" with immediate feedback on problem solving. SO unlike my work where it can takes months or years to see the end results.

Enjoy you kids taking them out. That is one of the truly great pleasures in life.

I thought I would take advantage of the angle on this picture and show some of the features of Rex. Normally when he is on his side he isn't this much in the open. :)

Is the engine skid aluminum too or is it steel? I ask because I'm also running the TNT aluminum belly system and while the t-case and fuel tank skids are holding up fine (grooved and scratched but no real damage) my engine skid is getting pretty dented up and starting to rub on my exhaust. I was contemplating replacing it with the steel one. Thoughts?

Mine is Al. The oil pan skid on Rex has only a couple scratches.

Can you bend yours back into place?

I tried using our press at work and the aluminum just has too much memory. Its bent in just forward of the drop down at the trans crossmember. It sat on the press over night and the dent came right back once the pressure was relieved. I'm going to play with it a little bit more this weekend but I think I'm going to just bash my exhaust cross over flat to keep it from rubbing.

I might just accept a bit of a weight penalty and get a steel engine skid next and just keep the rest aluminum. They have more support and are holding up fine.

How did you hit that skid in the first place? I'm just curious, I haven't seen that skid get dinged too often.

I don't know, I hit my skids so much it's not even funny. I only have 11" under my t-case skid.

1.5" actual lift (soft 2.5" springs) and 34" measure tires (metric 35) makes for no clearance.
