Definitely better than nothing, without the stock rail there I would have a rock-shaped dent in my rocker panel. Still, not satisfactory, not at all. Remember, I have Hammers-rated rock rails on my LJ, as in, they would have laughed at this rock and I'd have ended up with a scratch on the stainless steel rub rail at worst. Looking at this design there's nothing wrong with the actual rail itself, but the mounting scheme is ridiculously weak.

I might, I just need to check my calendar for other conflicts. I just got back from a week in the northern Mojave wheeling / hiking, so I'm not quite caught up! Yeah, I got my new JK six weeks ago and it already has 3500 miles on it :D.

Completed my new aluminum tailgate cargo rack (only 10 lbs) and installed an additional Rotopax mount to the passenger side rail; added a second 8 gallon Rotopax fuel pack to the lower mount and moved water to the upper mount. Water packs are still lower than the roofline. Getting ready for more remote trips in 2012.

Added my tailgate holder over the Smitty packs.

Not a bad idea, Scott. I hate that damn hood rod!
I'm still baffled as to why they moved the hood rod from the bottom of the hood to the top of the radiator crossmember. On the TJ you could use the hood rod as a handle to gently lay the hood back against the windshield when you needed more room or light than you could get by propping up the hood on the rod. On the JK you can still gently lay the hood back against the windshield, but you have to walk around the side of the Jeep to do so, you can't just extend the rod and gently push from the front of the Jeep.

Most of the changes from the TJ to JK I can understand. H13 bulbs vs. sealed beams... well, they look better, anyhow, and sealed beam bulbs aren't going to be sold forever. Gas tank between the frame rails rather than under the tail... well, the safety nazis pretty much dictated that. But then there's just utterly bizarre and random changes like this one that baffle me, because there's just no gain in functionality over the time-proven way of doing things and in fact it's worse. Hrm. :pissed:

Edit.....Well by lookin at the pics on FB, I guess Chris wasn't even there. So it was caused by you taking it alittle to far over the edge!! Oh well it's all in fun!

LOL, it was the V-notch at last chance canyon. Been through it a few times before and this happened the second time through on this day. The problem was I blew the passenger side front tire and that side of the Jeep just dropped. Had to winch myself through to the end of the V-notch with the passenger side of my Jeep laying against the rock wall of the V-notch with the tire off the bead and steering almost impossible. It actually sounded worse than the damage looks.
Looking forward to the 2012 JKation, just hope it works with my vacation schedule.

Bent the mounts for my right stock Rubi rock rail back into approximately the right shape and pushed the fender back into its plastic clip. Went from this:

If you're up close you can see the dent in the body where the rail hit (and I need to get some chip repair paint to sort of disguise the places where the paint chipped off), and you can see that the rail still isn't *quite* right (it's out and up slightly compared to the driver's side rail), but it looks good enough for now. I just have to remember not to wheel until I get real rock rails instead of these pretend ones. (Actually, the stock Rubi rails themselves aren't bad, it took the blow with little more than a scratch, but the mounting system -- two noodly brackets attached to the pinch seam and a clip in the footstep mounting channel -- sucks big-time).
