So Mark, did they not warranty, or you just making a move as a matter of some other tech reason?
I emailed their technical service address twice - no response. I prefer emails as they are a fantastic, verifiable documentation trail. Been meaning to follow up, but needed to move onwards part-wise to have a running jeep for upcoming trips. I understand others have had good customer service experience with Currie while others have not. I feel, based on what/how I wrote my emails, that some/any response would simply make smart customer (and hence business) sense on their part. As such, based on my experience from their customer service level to date, I would not consider Currie products in the future, regardless of any technical prowess on their part.

I do hope they respond, but even if so, I'd still question their customer service team's (or philosophy?) efficacy.

Hi. Just following up. Trying to determine if I should go Currie tie-rod or not again. Thanks.

Subject: Snapped JK tie rod

Hi. I'm wondering if you have ever witnessed/heard of this situation occurring before with your JK tie rod. Over the weekend, while up on the Rubicon Trail, my Currie tie rod snapped in half. It snapped roughly where the threaded portion for the driver side rod ends. The tie rod is about 2 years old, IIRC. I'm a JKU with approximately 4.5" lift and 37" tires. I'm looking for some input before I decide what to do next tie rod-wise. Attached are some pictures. Either call or email after you've have a chance to look at. Thanks!

Yup. Bad customer care seems to be the gold standard now.
I emailed gopro in regard to my (already once replaced)wifi battery dieing in half an hour.
"We are sorry it does not meet your expectations" was the weazel word non apology i received.
In other words, you, the customer have unrealistically high demands, if you expect a product to work as advertised.
Lesson learned. When it craps out ill go with a contour.

Yeah, that is pretty sucky non-response. I would repackage that email to david@currieenterprises.com.

And if by chance they fail to respond, I would be happy to follow you into Dirty Laundry for a pound or two of flesh.

I heard back from Evo.

Lets just say after I get my part back I'll never do business with them again.

I talked to Mel and he told me that most companies use silicone to hold the skid plate to the oil pan. I asked him who. He said Ranchero. I asked about RR and Poly and he didn't have much to say.

Then he asked who I bought the skid plates from. Looking for some way to get me to go away. When I told him I bought them from him. He was like oh. I then told him that I've actually bought a fair bit of gear from them and know this is probably the odd duck.

He was like yeah. I've just never seen this happen. To which I responded that would lead me to believe this is a manufacturing defect and not abuse. Especially given the location of the weld that broke.

I offered to send him pictures to prove that I wasn't lying. He said he didn't need them and to just send him the part. I was like ok whatever. I'll send you the part and deal with uninstalling and installing and all that run around.

It then occurred to me that I'm going to pay to ship their mistake back and forth. So I call him back and ask him how they would like to arrange shipping.

This is where he becomes very irritated. How dare I ask him to cover the cost of his mistake. He says that no one does that. When I point out that teraflex, poly, and genright all do that for defective parts. He got really upset and told me to send him pictures.

So tonight I get this email back. Now, I'm glad they emailed me back. However, I deal with artful dodges all day long..
Charles:

Hi and thanks for sending the pictures to us.

I have forwarded your email to Andrew at Evo Mfg. After viewing your picks
I talked with him and he has not seen one take that hard of hit before. Good news is,
it looks like the skid did it's job. He said that if you can ship it back to us that we
will definitely warranty it for you. No problem.

Let me know when you ship it so I know to look for it.
They say "no problem"... except all of the cost that I have to incur to ship this. The cost to ship this to them and then back to me will probably cost me between 50 and 160 dollars via the USPS depending on how I ship it. A brand new skidplate is 156 dollars with free shipping and no tax.

This is almost as bad as poison spyder. They told me that it was my fault their fenders didn't fit my Jeep and then wanted me to pay shipping to send them back. Luckily that time Marcus covered the cost of that for me.

I hate buying jeep parts. Seriously. Scarcity is the only reason these guys stay in business.

Contact the Better Business Bureau in his area and that often lights a fire under their ass. You can do it online and pretty much copy and paste what you have here. Assholes!! :pissed:

Charles, looks like physical damage to me. The weld, meh. Take it off and have the Godmother lay a new bead across it, a few hammer blows, sand blast, powder coat......all's good.

Just my .02, which is worth .01 in the JKO economy.
Craig,

I might actually do just that. I'm not pissed that it is broken. Shit happens.

I'm just pissed at the way I was treated on the phone. The arrogance was astounding.

Been down that road with them before......:(
really? i imagine you've spent a grip with them. i spent about 4k with them on my last jk for just the front C/O's, gears and other misc things and i had the same feeling from them too.

I get it Charles. I can't build another Jeep because I have crossed so many vendors off the list, I would be short parts. That is probably just me though. I am glad you had it on there or that would have been one heck of a trail repair (and mess).
