Above the temp gauge there is a little red round light flickering.
Its a little dot like maybe for factory security??
Its randomly coming on and off, what the hell is it?

Thanks,

SECURITY ALARM SYSTEM — IF EQUIPPED
This system monitors the vehicle doors, swing gate, and
ignition for unauthorized operation. When the alarm is
activated, the system provides both audible and visual
signals. The horn, headlights, and tail lights will sound/
flash repeatedly for three minutes. If disturbance is still
present (driver’s door, passenger door, other doors, ignition)
after three minutes, the headlights and tail lights
will flash for an additional 15 minutes.
NOTE: The “Panic” and “Security” alarms are quite
different. Please take a moment to activate the “Panic”
and the “Security” modes to hear the differences in the
horn. In case one should go off in the future, you will
need to know which mode has been activated in order to
deactivate it.

To Set the Alarm
The alarm will set when you use the remote keyless entry
transmitter to lock the doors and swing gate or when you
use the power door lock switch while the door is open.
After all the doors are locked and closed, the “Sentry
Key/Security Alarm Indicator Light” (located in the
instrument cluster) will flash rapidly for about 16 seconds
to signal that the system is arming. During this 16
second arming period, opening any door or the swing
gate will cancel the arming. If the system successfully
arms, the “Sentry Key/Security Alarm Indicator Light”
will flash at a slower rate to indicate the alarm is set.
To Disarm the System
To disarm the system, you will need to press the “Unlock”
button on the remote keyless entry transmitter or
turn the ignition key to the RUN position. If something
has triggered the system in your absence, the horn will
sound three times when you unlock the doors. Check the
vehicle for tampering.

The Security Alarm System is designed to protect your
vehicle; however, you can create conditions where the
system will arm unexpectedly. If you remain in the
vehicle and lock the doors with the transmitter, once the
system is armed (after 16 seconds), when you pull the
door handle to exit the alarm will sound. If this occurs,
press the “Unlock” button on the remote keyless entry
transmitter to disarm the system. You may also accidentally
disarm the system by unlocking the driver’s door
with the key and then locking it. The door will be locked
but the Security Alarm will not arm.

That light is the "SKIM" light and it shouldnt be coming on while driving down the road... could be an issue with the WCM/SKIM module..or could be an issue inside the cluster...

UNLESS... someone wired a radio/CB/AMP etc etc in improperly

dashlights

Mine does the same thing. It didn't start until after I had the computer flashed, before the warranty ran out, for the hot oil recall. I have half doors so I don't have the security system, power windows, or power locks so I don't think it has anything to do with the WCM. I took it back to the dealer and they couldn't find anything. I have checked the codes myself and have no error codes showing.

What I have noticed, is that it only does it when I have the heater running, which leads me to beleave it is a heat related electronics problem. Since electronics don't like heat and I can cut the heat off and after it cools down a little the light goes out & stays out.

I am going to tear the dash apart when warm weather returns to look for a problem with the heater or defroster duct work. I had another Jeep several years ago that the defroster duct was never installed onto the outlet for it on the heater box at the factory. So I am wondering if this is the same type situation.

Post up the why's and how's and lets put our heads together and see if we can find a solution for this PIA.

you may want to check for codes. it usually takes a few tries to get it right if you've never done it before, but you just put the key in and turn it to the "run" position (but not all the way forward. you don't want the engine to crank) and back to the "off" position 3 times. on the third time, leave it in the "run" position and it should read out any current fault codes in the readout under the tach. once it's finished it'll read "done". search the code here on the forum and it should tell you what it means. this should get you started in the right direction.

DISCLAIMER- this may not be the exact method since i'm going from memory, so if it doesn't work after a few tries you may want to do a search to find the correct way.

hot oil light...

On an 07 there is no tpms...that means its your oil temp going off. Do the key-dance for a code...i am willing to bet its justthe sensor. Thin oil and texas traffic dont mix.

Anyone discover a fix for this problem.

I seem to have this exact problem. The red sentry light and "low tire" light keep coming on randomly on my 2009 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. The local Jeep dealer has checked all tire pressure, tire sensors, modules, recalibrated all sensors and modules twice, & even went as far as replacing the gauge cluster. None of this has worked, I still get those two lights coming on randomly for a few seconds then they shut off. I've tried a procal which seemed to get rid of the tire warning, however the red sentry light still goes off. Does anyone know what the hell might be going on or any ideas. The jeep only has 33k on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Still looking for a solution.

Anyone have any ideas or fixes on this? With other people having the same problem I'd think someone might have a solution. Jeep has been at the dealer now for nearly a week and they still have no clue. If anyone one has any thoughts or ideas I'd greatly appreciate it.

its prolly not a fix, but try unhooking the battery for a bit, this simple trick seems to fix tons of glitches

that is if you already havent done so

Have had this same problem for quite some time but has gotten considerably worse in last two weeks. 2 local service departments had no idea and had never heard of this problem before. Sometimes light would come on up to 15 times a day. Only way I could get it to stop was to turn off the rig and start it up again, this would delay it for about a half hour. Finally decided to try my other key, and red light did not come on once today. Now need to find out if key is going bad? Or could the battery in fob have anything to do with it?

Curious if any of you guys are also seeing an issue with your Jeep occasionally NOT cranking up? Because I have this issue you all are describing in this thread AND also have an issue with my 2008 JK not cranking at times. Already replaced the battery, and was looking into a new starter.... but I *think* my no start issue will be corrected after replacing the Wireless Control Module and Electric Steering Column Lock per Technical Service Bulletin 08-007-08 REV A. that I've come across this am. I'm also hoping that replacing these parts will also get rid of this annoying issue described in this thread

Red Light above Temp Gauge

I have an 07 two door manual everything except trans (thats and automatic). Bought it nearly three years ago..... the last two weeks, i have had difficulty cranking the engine. and the light seems to come on quite a bit more while driving.
Like A LOT!!!!! Were you able to find anything out? You were the only person to mention the cranking issue in this thread.

I got my wrangler used, only one key from the dealership (non-Jeep/Chrysler) I do not have keyless entry or any other alarm features. Could the chip in my key be going bad?? Of course all of this starts happening after my ext warranty expired 1500 miles ago

I had several lights on my dash flash while driving and the dealer thought it was odd but I had no codes.

I started finding on other forums folks with the same issue. Turns out if you have loose battery connections or your battery is dying iit will cause your dash lights to randomly flash.

My battery was going so I got a new one and now have no issues.

The cable ends seem to be prety crappy when it comes to staying tight as well as I also had a loose neg end and it wouldn't tighten up completely. It was snug but could still be moved by hand.

I am wondering if it has something to do with a head light being out? Mine flickered while driving last Tuesday or Wedneday and Thursday night I noticed I had a head light out, replaced the head lamp and the light has not flickered since...

I agree with Robbie on the TMPS issue , But what I found with a problem in regards to the security (red ) indicator is ; the person that owns the JK would open the door using the key ( for reasons unknown ) and set off the alarm , She shut it off then with the key fob . But the red light showed up , OK , what I found some are set up to indicate a history of tamper indication by showing that light as an attempt to unauthorized entry . For some reason mine is not set up like that but hers was . What I ended up doing was installing a new battery in the Key fob and unhooking the battery for an hour , to reset the system that I had been messing with for the morning . Try It , Good Luck .

Ok here's my info, 2008 JKU bought new in 2008. Mine is a soft top full door version with manual everything, no alarm or key fob or nothing. I drove it stock till the 36,000 was reached. Swapped wheels and tires but not the tpms sensors, that's when my tpms light came on and every so often while driving I get a chime followed by the tpms light and that red light alternating blinking for a few minutes with multiple chimes and then it goes off for a while. Shutting the rig down does stop the sequence but it will always come back eventually. No codes, and I only get the red light with the tpms system reminding me it's not reading any sensors so I know the red light is solely related to the tpms system on my rig.
