I went from a non-leaking hard top to the ORH combo top. Not much leaking going on (except through the hole poked in my top during transit).

Booting this to the top of the threads for an answer from someone with firsthand knowledge

 

Thanks, I remember reading about a change made in something between the early 2007 models and late 2007 models. Not sure what it was or if there is a new seal or something you can buy.

 

You could always wait for a good solid rain to head over and take a look at the Jeep. If it's leaking, ya keep looking.

If I'm not mistaken, it had to do with the header and/or the weather stripping at the front of the Jeep. Both seem to have been corrected by the time the 2009's came out, but there are still periodic reports of leaks. All depends on how stoned the Chrysler employees were the day that one rolled off the line.

 

Wow, you mean Chrysler still has no quality control in place...thats a shocker.

 

If I'm not mistaken there was a different header design in late 07 that fixed this leak problem. Again this is just what I heard, I never had the leak problem.

 

could be a early 07 problem, my 07 2 door leaked (bought in nov of 06) but my later 07 doesnt,ifixed the leak with some stick on weather stripping.

 

The leak ain't fixed! I was at a dealer 2 weeks ago. Several 2011 JKs on the lot. Doors were unlocked. I checked 3. 2 had wet carpets on the driver's side.

 

My 2011 hard top leaks worse than any of my other 4 jeeps. The water collects on the passenger floor. I haven't even wasted my time with the dealer yet. Their favorite line is "Thats normal, they all do that"

 

Well if you have taken the panels off, and did not get them back in just right they will leak, my 07 2 door soft top leaked like no other, was told thats normal, I got my self a 2010 soft top 2 door, does not leak, just make sure you get the panels back in right.

 

Then they all be BUSTED!!! Looks like i am new JK owner. We are going to finalize the deal in the morning.

I read so many threads about JK's with leaks, but my '07 is dry as a bone! We even experienced recorder flooding due to rain this spring. I guess I'm just lucky. I've even had the freedom panels off at least a dozen times since I've bought it.

If all goes right, I'm switching to the softtop tomorrow. I just have to find a place to store it at the in-laws.

 

I found 3 TSB's relating to leaking/non-sealing hard tops because mine is having the same issues. I dont know if they're legit but I'm having a dealership look into them right now to see if they can fix them:

The first one definitely has nothing to do with a hard top. The third one may already be on your vehicle depending on what year it is.

 

They changed the header design in late 07 yes. There used to be a plastic brace that held the top together over the windshield. They replaced this with a metal one. It doesn't bow over the windshield anymore but you can still get a leak over the doors up around the A-pillar. If it's full doors then buy some Lowe's weatherstripping and apply it to the plastic door surround around the top of door. That will help. It actually stopped mine when I had full doors. If it's with half doors bend (CAREFULLY!!!) the door uppers in towards the cab with the doors open. The door upper should lie flush with or inside the windshield when you run your hand across. Then replace the top if its old (only necessary for half doors). That stopped 90% of my leaking. If it rains really hard I'll still get a few drops.
