Look at the fuel rail pressure sensor at the rear of the fuel rail. If its a 4 wire sensor its a 2014-2016 engine.... if its a 3 wire sensor then its 2017 and up.
14-16 engines are basically the same and can be ran on 14-16 calibrations. 17+ have to be ran with 17+ calibrations. I have better luck with the 17+ engine calibrations, some of the early calibrations have issues especially the 2016 calibration.

You can swap out the fuel rail sensor on the early engines and make them run on a 2017 calibration as long as your harness is pined out correctly.

Stick with the 14-16 TCM calibrations as those TCMs do not need to be unlocked. You can run a early TCM behind a 2017 engine computer.

The TCM has to be programed to match the special number on the side of the transmission. best bet is use the TCM that came with the trans so you know it matches.

Hey Guys, So, I'm trying to figure out what year of Gen V engine I have. I know it a 6.2 with an 8l90 and a 3 wire fuel sensor. I need to know the year as I think the guy I bought it from gave me the wrong ECM. The engine etched code is 1K*THG279910.
Appreciate any assistance.

If it has a 3 wire fuel rail pressure sensor then its a 2017+. I would find a 2017 E92 ECU.
What are the part numbers on the back of the ECU they gave you?

That service number looks like a 15-16 ECU. That will not work with a 3 wire fuel rail pressure sensor.
Its always best to get the TCM that was mated to the transmission. The 8 speed is a pain in the butt because the TCM has to be programed with the solenoid pack info.

The last 8 digits of this are the last 8 of the vin. H in this case would be in the 10th position of the complete vin.
H = 2017

Looks like you will need a 2017 E92 ECU. look for service #12674052. I would find a used one that is already programed for the same engine as yours (5.3 - 6.2) or we have some in stock that we can sell you.
