I was under the jeep replacing my transmission drain pan and noticed the exhaust flange bolts on both sides were completely rusted out.

Does anyone know what size bolts they are?

I'm going to use a ball joint separator to remove them.

Has anyone tried stainless steel bolts in these applications? The combination of constant heat cycles water (maybe even salt) will quickly eat any normal bolts in exhausts?

For sure the SS bolts will be more expensive, but might save money especially if you factor in the time used to fight the rusted bolts...

I just did these when I was replacing my transmission.

The broken bolts and captive nuts are pressed in and can be pressed out. This is what I did. I used a ball joint tool and removed them.

They were replaced with stainless steel M10x1.5 bolts, washers, lock washers and nuts. They filled the holes nicely.

Was a little bit of a pain, but glad I did it.

Here are the pressed out inserts:

I will try to get a pic of the new bolts in a little while.

These are not the nuts I used, they are what I had on hand at the time. They were switched for stainless steel. Unfortunately I am at work and cant go take a pic, but I found one I had taken when I was under the jeep.
