I am looking at getting a proper knife for the woods. I am done with the $60 jobbers with a gut hook. I am looking more at knifes like SOG seal team or Fallenkniven A1 something along those lines. What do yall carry out in the woods. Trying to get some feed back on different types.

x2 for SOG. You can't go wrong with anything that they make. I carry a SOG Revolver, Axe, and Trident in my Jeep all the time. I carry a Kershaw with me all the time and I fixing to add a Crovel to my offroad gear. I guess it just depends on your needs and where you are.

I carry a $13 Timbler Rattler Bowie that I bought off Bud-K for my backpacking trips. No, its not a name brand knife and probably cannot be sharpened to the level more expensive knives can but it suits its purpose. I use it for cutting timber and possible defense if needed (its intimidating!) I don't feel bad beating it up or possible losing it because it was only $13. Great buy in my opinion.

x2 on the essee.

OP:
I recently picked up the ESEE-3Mil plain edge. I really like the design, grip, and overall feel of this knife. So far I've used it in the dirt and woods and it meets my needs for daily use/carry.
Made in USA, Lifetime guarantee.
I've used sog, benchmade, mod, crkt, buck, gerber etc and they've all been good knives for different reasons and you won't go wrong with any of these companies.

My main like of this knife is the blade shape/thickness and grip.
You may want something bigger than the 3 for your needs. The 5 gets great reviews and everything ESEE makes is bomber.
If you have a habit of setting your knife down or want to accessorize your Zombie Outbreak Equipment there's this.

Woods knife...that's a machete, right?
They come in all sizes, shapes. Find the one that does what you need it to...

My Buck110, Browning skinners and Gerber fixed blades have little use in the woods unless I'm wittlin', cleanin' or stabbin'.
If you want a utility knife for woods work, get a big one, you'll want a chopper, like a Ka-bar.

For 10$-30$ a pop, a machete is unmatched for woods duty. You don't have to treat 'em nice and they take a beating. Kinda like a truck shotgun, you know? The kind you just throw into the bed of the truck.

That is kind of a wide open question. If you want versatility, go with one of the switchable blade knives (Kershaw). If you want a general purpose survival knife, the M7S performed great all the years I used one. If you want a machete, get one with a brush hook.

Personally, I usually keep my surplus german gravity para knife on me when out and about. If I were planning on some up close and personal time, it would be one of the old British commando daggers. 8 inches of blade to puncture a lung downward through the shoulder. Anything over arms reach and you have the wrong weapon in hand if you have a knife.
