Someone please tell me that I'm not a complete idiot. I ordered a Smittybuilt winch (be kind, I don't need top of the line hardcore shit for my DD) got it out of the box, mounted and wired it and nothing. It doesn't do a thing! The clutch lever seems like it isn't doing much at all and is really easy to turn, no resistance whatso ever. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Did you wire it directly to the battery?
Check the connection plug switch line they have to be pushed in completely.
The clutch lever is so you can manually unwind line to get to your pull point.
Then lock it so the winch can do the work to roll it in or out.
Keep your hand clear of the rollers for those last few feet. It doesn't stop
just because you let off the switch.

So it makes no noise what-so-ever? Did you turn the remote ~1/8 turn clock-wise once you plugged it in? If you plug it straight in, the contacts will never let it do anything.

Can you unspool it when the lever is on freespool? or vise-versa?

Yes. Wired straight to the battery and yes I did turn the control connection the 1/8 turn. Still nothing...no noise or anything. It does free spool but it's very stiff. Just seems like nothing engages at all.

First off are you sure the connector is the right way in the receptacle? I know that it can be forced in 180° off.
Secondly does the LED on the controller light up when the switch is activated?
FYI the clutch position doesn't matter and motor should turn either engaged or disengaged.

Control connector is inserted properly. No led lights illuminate.

I think i'll dismount the entire thing. Double check all the wiring and go from there.

I figured it out. The factory wiring inside the selinoid wasn't right. All fixed. Thanks for the help guys.
