This is just a "feeler", as we may try to organize a late season 2009 JKowners wheeling/ camping trip to the Lone Star state. Because this is just in the initial stage of planning...there are currently very few details and no set dates available yet. If you are interested- feel free to post up suggestions, possible date availability, and ideas of what you would like to see and do while here. I am posting some good links to provide some information of what Texas has to offer.

I will put my vote in for Big Bend. As far as dates, I will try and plan my schedule around what everyone else want. I live in this great state, so I do not have the drive that others would. I would suggest going maybe March thry May, before it gets to hot, that is if we will be camping. When will Katempcy open back up. That could always be on the way back, depending on the amount of time people have.

K-rocks opens back up in January- I believe it is a closed Toyota event- but by March/ April, there will be some open runs going on there. I don't think they have posted up the 2009 schedule yet.

I also like the idea of doing a Big Bend trip. The diversity of activities there is great. People could opt out of a day or two of wheeling/ sightseeing, and instead go rafting, mountain biking, camping, shopping in Terlingua, etc. To me personally- I (as many others that live here) could do Katemcy any time basically, and concentrate on the jkowners trip being at Big Bend. Another "plus" as far as Big Bend is that it's pretty much 365- 24/7, so we could plan it for any day or week.

As everyone knows...You don't want to be outdoors too much throughout west Texas in the summer time. Not sure if this would give perspective participants enough time to make their plans. If we get enough interest/ input...then springtime could work great. The black bears & mtn lions are still active at that time as well, for those that would like to get some sightings/ photo ops. Also in the spring, there would be more in the way of flowering cactus & plants...also a "plus" for those interested in photography. Dave had mentioned the fall... so not sure if he would be in for March- May.

I vote for Trees Ranch!
That would be like going to Italy and eating at McDonald's. :D

I am up for a jkowners event at Trees...but if we get some interest from those out of state, then I would really like to blow their doors off with some Texas sized scenery and fun. Last time I was at Trees, we were done by the afternoon and claustrophobia was setting in. Trees is kinda small.

terahawk- We should try to do a Texas jkowners run out at K-rocks in the spring . I bet some of the guys from Jeep Nation ot of San Antonio would be in for this as well. They are a fun group.

so far that's my favorite spot

http://katemcyrocks.com/ is great but the lack of a "trail" system gives Tree's a bump imo.

BMRA is a fantastic place, great trail system but not enough rocks. For camping though, it really is hard to beat. Oha nd you can wheel at night until 10pm :) Fun stuff.

I dunno what Tree's you've been going to but http://www.treesranchoffroad.com/ is anything but small, hell it takes 30 minutes to get to the trails! 5,500 acres makes it the biggest park in Texas. They add new trails every season. We wheeled from 8:30am to 5:30pm for 2 days and didn't hit everything and only a few twice because we looped through (the Centipede's come to mind).

Tree's downfall is it's remote location, great for camping but unlike K-rocks, you can't run into town for parts or dinner :(

Sorry for the confusion- I was thinking Cline. Yea, Trees is a big place- I often get those two mixed up. I've only been to Trees once and it has been a couple years ago.I do remember that it is very remote, as stated. I would suggest Longs as far as camping and location...but not sure that there is enough trails to keep everyone busy.

I am starting to think that a central Texas jkowners trip in the spring and another Big Bend trip in the fall may be something to look at. I think that there may be not enough interest in doing Big Bend for the hardcore wheelers/ non-camping crowd. The main thing about Big Bend (besides that it is also VERY remote)...is that it would be more advisable to allow plenty of time. A weekend would certainly not be long enough considering the size, etc. Big Bend is about an 8- 9 hour drive just from central Texas area.

Really need to get some more input from others as well, but it sounds like Bunker and terahawk would be up for a weekend run at Trees. (?)

Always happy to go to Trees or Longs with some notice, and I can drag a couple other Houston guys with me. Hopefully I'll get all my parts re-assembled on my heap soon as I am running on a spare axle assembly that belongs to soemone else!

Sounds good. Sorry about the confusion. And I just looked at Trees schedule- Nothing up yet for 2009, but that would be a great time as well.

Should be no problem for me making the Trees trip in March. Will probably be bringing my brother and his JK also. Looking forward to meeting everyone. The fall trip may be a hard for me to make. That is when my childrens sports start back up. May go anyways. Would love to see Big Bend. Would also like to make a trip to Katempcy in the spring.

Good to know. I was thinking about making the spring jeep jam in Llano. Not sure now though. Wondering how many jkowners will be attending Trees or JJ.

Thanks for the "heads up" SRT. :)
