I was told that with a 9" wide rim, the recommended width of the tire would be 12.5". Is this true? I have also heard that a 12.5" tires recommend width of the wheel is 8.5" Are both these statements fact? I'm looking to upgrade to beadlocks in the next few months, and I'm trying to get the right dimensions of the wheel to make sure I don't rub. Right now I run MT 17x9 with 4.5" back spacing wheels with 35x12.5x17 tires with no issues. Thanks for the advice:bounce:

You can do a little research on the web to find the answer or ask your local reputable tire shop. I found a site that list recommended rim sizes for the tire. The website is http://tire-size-conversion.com/tires/Mud-Terrain-TA-KM2.htm. You may have to play around with to find the tire you are looking for. If you can't find the specific brand you can use the others for comparison.

either rim width will work fine. i know that there may be rubbing issues with the 4.5bs if coilovers are in your future. 3.5bs is what i was told will work best. my .02 cents.

Most tire manufacturers have a recommendation of 8.5 - 9.5 inch wide for a 12.50 to 13.50 tire for CYA purposes. There are plenty of folks running an 8" wide wheel with 12.50s and beyond and they've been doing it for years and years.

In regard to beadlocks for the JK bolt pattern, you can look at any of them and be just fine with a 35x1250 or 37x1250 or x 1350. Most of them are going to be 9" or better wide and have 4.5" or less back spacing.

Marcus, always love hearing from you. The reason I bring this up is because I keep bringing the trail home with me in my beads/tires. Not to mention they look sick. I was looking at the Trail Ready HD 17" ones and wanted to make sure they would fit. 17x8.5 with 4.5 backspacing.

Since this thread is about wheel and tire widths...is it true that the width of the wheel will affect the tire's mounted dimensions? For example, an 8" wide wheel with a 35x12.5" tire will be (choose one) taller/shorter and wider/narrower once installed?
