Hey guys I have aluminum, psc fenders and steel psc corner armor. I had a place down town powder coat them. And I'm having alot of chips caused by my tires thrown up and the corner armor is rusting. The fenders haven't rusted because they are aluminum but it looks bad. I think the powder coat was to thin. Anyway my jeep is notna payment princess but the rust spots look like crap. What do you guys do to touch it up? Or should I just pull it all off and go over it with rustolium???

Rustoleum bedliner.

If your tires are sticking out past the fenders, they will continue to get chipped. Only way to stop it is to mall crawl.

FYI, I have PS narrow flares.

Lol yeah mall crawl is not going to happen!! Do you have psc corners?

im not sure that all powder coating is created equal.

also what should you use if you plan to touch up powder coating? not to hijack this but my front bumper needs some touch up before real winter sets in.

Like a good paint job, successful powder coating is all in the preparation. The metal has to be sand blasted (yes even bare steel), acid dipped and perfectly clean. Ideally for steel, a good zinc based powder coat primer will help the top color coat really adhere well to the surface. I have PS rock sliders that get hammered with stones from my tires and I have yet to find a chip.

For AL pieces, and I run AL bumpers, I prefer a clear coat over the color coat. Again, preparation is key.

It costs more to do it right, but you get what you pay for.

For me, rustoleum "rust reformer" is like franks red hot sauce. I put that shit on everything.

It is a nice matte black finish for bumpers, fenders, frame, axles, etc.

How long has it been since it was all powder coated?

I have the same parts, steel PS corners, and aluminum PS fenders, my corners were paint matched to the jeep, fenders were powder coated. The place that did them sandblasted, acid dipped, phosphate washed, primer base coated and then painted/powdered them.

The corners have been on for 3-4 years now, not a single rock chip on them anywhere, the fenders i ran bare aluminum at first but got tired of the steel wool regimen needed to keep them looking decent (Colorado uses mag chloride on the roads in winter in certain areas and it stains bare aluminum). The fenders have been powder coated since this past fall, zero issues with chips or flakes there either.

If you're familiar with Colorado driving at all, you know that we don't put salt on the road, they literally use sand/decomposed granite on the roads in the winter for traction, every vehicle has a chipped up hood and windshield because of this, which means my tires are picking it up and throwing it at the fenders/corners all the time as well. Tires stick out quite a ways from the Jeep too.

I would think whoever did the powder coating did a crappy job or maybe didn't have a good "batch" of powder? If it were me and they were done fairly recently, i would take it back over to them and see what they have to say??
