Now getting U1417 & U1418 codes - "implausible wheel distance signal" codes for both front wheels?

Thanks, but I know what they are, just trying to find a cause for both front wheels to be throwing the same code.
U1417 is the left wheel and U1418 is the right

 

ya know I hadnt thought of it until just now, I assumed it meant front wheels when I looked it up, but it just says left and right.
Guess I should look at the rears too

 

Here is some info for the codes you have.
It may not be a sensor at a wheel unless you also have a sensor code.
U1417 and U1418 have the same possible causes.

U1417-IMPLAUSIBLE LEFT WHEEL DISTANCE SIGNAL RECEIVED

When Monitored:
Ignition on.

Set Condition:
The PCM gets an implausible signal over the CAN C circuit from the ABS Module. The circuit is continuously monitored. One Trip fault.


Possible Causes

VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR FAULT ACTIVE IN ANTI-LOCK BRAKE MODULE

CAN C BUS CIRCUIT SHORTED

CAN C BUS CIRCUIT OPEN

ABS MODULE

POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

 

Everytime I dipped my 07' in water I lost one or two wheel sensors. After getting them replaced under warranty twice, I put Dana 60's under the JK. No more sensor issue, dam dash lights don't like it though.

LOL yeah dipping them in water would require HAVING water, something not found naturally in Texas anymore

disco'd the battery and left it all night, still have dash lights today but no codes now

 

ok just realized a new symptom.... my speedo is off
speedo says 80, gps says 70
so its about gotta be something with a WSS?

nah man, I appreciate your attempt to help, but like I said, it really doesnt tell me anything

just went through the underside, all the wires look good - nothing mashed or pinched.

so we're left with some sort of digital problem I'm guessing?

ABS module was supposedly replaced in January (not under powertrain warranty of course) because it kept nailing the right front brake for me - I think the problem was actually the left front WSS in the toasted unit bearing.

but anyway, it should have a fairly new ABS module in it.

So I'm left with paying the dealership to hook it up to the chassis scanner to tell me whats making the canbus unhappy?

Troubleshooting the Can Bus requires the Dealer StarScan tool.

The good thing is, if it's a bad ABS module, yours should still be under the 1 year new part warranty.

Mark yours with a permanent marker in a hidden location (just a dot) before you bring it in.

bad left front unit bearing, replaced it and the the wheel speed sensor that comes with it and no more problems.

 

Thanks for the reply. I have a couple more questions.

1. How much was the part if you can remember? Do you have the part number?

2. How did you determine if it was front or rear since the U1417 only refers to the left side. I only ask because I have replaced my left front and left rear sensors, and the left rear is where I found broken wires in the harness, which have since been repaired but I still have the lights.

Usually a little less than $100 and easy to change.

I determined it was my front because when I jacked up that corner, the front wheel flopped around about 1.5" so it was pretty obvious. But not while driving. No shimmy or noise.

 

This is going to be quite the bump on this old post but I have a 2009 Jeep Wrangler JK, 108K miles, I have been getting the BAS ESP ABS lights stay on steadily for a year now. I would love to hear any more ideas/solutions people have to the U1417 codes - "implausible left wheel distance signal". Here's what has been done thus far:

1. Chrysler mechanics analyze, scan and have my jeep for a week... call the 'expert' at Chrysler and still no answers, they completely wire directly from the left rear abs sensor to the computer. Had the lights off for a day, then they came back on.
2. Replaced both rear abs sensors, checked for cracked wires(no cracks)
3. Replaced driver side front wheel hub and sensor
4. Replaced clock spring
5. After every attempt to apply the fixes, the codes where reset using Superchips FLASHPAQ 3872

Any suggestions/solutions appreciated?

 

I just replaced my right rear sensor after getting the U1418 code. I had a time get the "red" clip off. Maybe there is a trick to it. I considered using dielectric grease but decided against it. I pretty much installed it based on feel because I couldnt see much while I was working on it. Indicator lights when off immediately after I rolled down driveway and made the turn down street, so it must take a few rotations to register.
