I'm commited to running top / doors off for most of the summer. So my question is this: Can I get a new saftey inspection sticker without doors on the Jeep?

Oh, and how abut 3rd break light? I have the AEV kit but haven't installed it yet.....

Thanks guys!

What county is your Jeep registered in? If you are registered in Hay's County you shouldn't have much trouble.

You do not need a 3rd brake light. Not sure about the doors.

You could always go to Shady Slims Inspection & Gynecologist Barn. :)

I have it registered in Denton county (north Dallas) where my house is. So the rules may differ from county to county? lol crazy. Good news about the 3rd light. I may not have that project done in time. And when I'm up in Denton next week (and when I'll get the inspection), my doors will be in Austin.

Projects to do when in Dallas....
1. Install Tuffy under seat security box.
2. wire my AEV 3rd break light with wireing to work with my swingout. <time premitting

Legally no it will not pass without doors because of the mirrors.
BUT it really depends on the inspector.
You will probably be fine getting a sticker without doors.
My understanding was that if you have the rear view you don't need side mounted mirrors.

Sounds like none of us know! ha ha!

LEGALLY, you ONLY need to have A (as in single) REAR FACING MIRROR, that can be a rear view or a side mirror to be legal in Texas.

I can't help you with the doors though.

There are several LEO's or ex LEO's on here, I'm sure one will chime in soon enough ;)

You only need the rearview mirror, you used to be able to buy vehicles with only the drivers mirror. You don't have to have doors on either. Depends on how the guy doing it feels, as in scared of driving without the doors. You should not have any issues as I have done it twice with it stripped down.

3rd brake light is required on all vehicles manufactured after 1993. Not saying they will check for it, but certainly can reject for it if your top is off, if they want to. The only time they can’t reject for it is if there’s a camper installed requiring the light to be blocked or removed all together. It’s specifically stated in the TX DPS Vehicle Inspection rules....

<--------DOT Inspector :D

As long as you have side mirrors your good.
Actually side mirrors are not required if the vehicle is equipped with a rear view mirror in good working order, with an unobstructed view to the rear. (Meaning it’s not a box truck, cargo van ect.
As far as doors, there’s no clause for doors, specifically, but window tint is required to be verified for compliance.TX DPS Vehicle Inspection Rules 4.20.35 specifically states,”Vehicles with windows which cannot be raised or lowered for the inspection of window tint will require that the vehicle inspection be terminated.”
