Transfer case shifter issue

Well after the bushing on the t-case busted (I replaced it) and with the shifter back on I'm still having an issue shifting. It's now in 2hi and I can shift down to 4hi but the the cable goes slack like when the bushing was broken. I rechecked and it's on the bushing good and tight when it's in 4hi. I have to drop the skid to hand shift it back to 2hi if I shift it inside the car. Any ideas why it's still doing this? I don't think the shifter is out of allignment or the cable loosened off it's mounting tab. I was thinking about replacing it with the shifter from advanced adapters (for like $190) but it's not an option right now seeing as I just spent a lot on a winch and bumper and I definitely don't want the dealer to put the Chrysler shit back in if I do need to replace it. So any ideas on how to at least temporarily fix it so I can wheel my jeep again?

It's possibly got a broken bushing at the lever, up inside the console. Only way to tell is to jerk the console apart. Not fun the first time. The AA kit is a 100% fix for this, but does increase audible transmission noise a bit. The AA cable is mounted solidly to a metal bracket on the side of the trans, whereas the stock cable mounts in a flexible material with some insulating devices in-line. The trans noise gets transmitted up the cable to the shifter and you will notice it.

No sweat, hope it helped!

Thanks for the input guys! I did take off my center console and sure enough the bushing did break off the shifter. I gotta head over to my dealer and buy(or order) literally 6 of them. If I have to buy $50 worth of those bushings then I'll consider buying the AA kit but for now I'll stick with the same shit.

Do a search and look for threads on modifying those crap stock clip/bushings. Stated simply, you can snip the clip part off the ends and retain the cable & bushings with washers and tight fitting "E" clips on the lever posts.

The very first time I tried my shifter the bushing broke! (09 JK two door) Anyway, the local dealer did not have any bushings in stock and had to order some. It was going to be a week. I went to Autozone and found some brass door hinge bushings for a Ford that were a very good fit. I used one along with an e-clip in the groove. I think it is good to go until the transfer case side breaks. It is a really bad design but is easily corrected for less than $10.

pop off the t case lever, gring off the tit, drill out to 5/16 inch, use a nut and bolt. I used red loctite cause you can't tighten nut all the way.

rivnut makes a good spacer between cable end and bolt
