I would like to do something to make life a little more bearable for you (OR if you will be home soon) or some of the guys in your outfit that will be in Iraq longer. This is the idea I have- I would like to send some things to you guys ASAP. The following is a list of questions/ comments that I need answered, so that I can put this together.

Favorite magazines incl specific issues (that I can get at walmart...not from the sticky fist porno palace)-

Snacks/ nuts/ jerkey (specific brands, types, etc.)-

Bathroom items (specific brands, sizes...like large or travel size)-

CD's (please only a FEW suggestions as MANY will break the bank)-

*I was also thinking that some offroad stickers would be cool...dunno?
*I thought that enclosing a pkg or two of ziplock bags would be a good idea, to seperate stuff into "on the go" rations...dunno?

*Last & most important- Where to send package? Specific post/ commander/ attn: to.../ or any other info to get the goods there faster or w/o mistakes.

GOD BLESS YOU GUYS...If I can do any of the above suggestions for y'all- it will be NO PROBLEM, considering the service that you are providing to our country. Oh, BTW...I am not a rich guy, but EVERYONE should be able to afford something to make our troops more comfortable in adverse conditions.

I figured on keeping this in a "public viewing" post so that anyone else wanting to do somethin similar, can see whats needed and ultimately- what will go into the box. Who the hell needs 20 fkn copies of Garth Brooks or Jessica Simpson...whatever. Thanks for the input, Dave.

FYI - my wife is active in Blue Star Moms that regularly sends care packages back to the troops in Iraq. One of the problems they see is that when the troops go out on missions it is sometimes for longer than expected and basic supplies are not always easy to get. Blue Star Moms care packages are sent with the mail (which usually makes it even to distant outposts). Here is the website: http://www.bluestarmoms.org/

Not to detract from this thread - if Jason is OK with people sending him stuff to distribute then that is a good idea as well - just wanted to alert everyone to a similar existing program.

I got my idea from the sportbike link... i just wanted to keep this along the lines of something kinda personal, cause ive read a lot of jasons posts and I really like his attitude as well as other millitary veterans on this board. I've seen news clips of the BSM program and will check it out...But I still would like to do somethin independently with Jasons consent, and would like to use this forum as a stepping stone if I am not out of line ( Lance's sandbox, ya know). If Jason can give me the thumbs up along w/ the info regarding what he and his guys need/ like, and a reliable shipping destination, then I'd like to run w/ it. It would also be cool to see the mods here consider doing a "soldier section" to give this type of thing a place of its own and away from "chit chat" or "the scrapbook". No big deal on that...Not trying to stir any pots. Thanks Lance for running such a respectable forum.

I'm currently in Baghdad and should be back in the States by Thursday. I say "should be" because nothing is certain here in Iraq.

Blue Star Moms (mentioned above) would be a good way to get packages to those serving in Iraq/Afghanistan. Any Marine (www.anymarine.com) is also good.

Things needed/wanted:

Magazines - FHM, Maxim, 4x4's, street bikes, pretty much any vehicle magazine.

Toiletries - Travel sizes are best...that way everyone gets something and it doesn't take up a lot of space in our bags or rucksacks. Shaving cream, toothpaste, mouthwash, hand wipes (I think we're all addicted to those). Fabric softener sheets...if you send these, put a little note in there telling the service member to put them around the tent or building where he sleeps and change them once a week...it does a GREAT job of keeping out the bugs...there seems to be something in them that bugs don't like...not sure if it works against the rats though.

Food - Anything that won't melt. Twizzlers, granola bars, power bars, powdered drink mixes (when you drink 6 to 8 liters of water a day, you like to add some flavor to it), peanuts and those little small packages of Jiffy peanut butter, Raman noodle packages, mac & cheese packages (microwavable).

We don't get caught up on the whole brand named things. It's nice, but when you have nothing else, you don't care what brand peanuts you're eating...as long as it's something other than MRE's, we're happy. But, if you send peanuts, the salted ones are probably best.

I think that should about do it...at least give you a starting point. I think it's terrific that even if people don't support the war, they support those fighting it. :smokin:

Supporting the troops in some way is the least that people can do. I no longer look at myself as supporting or not supporting the war. There are so many stories, families, positives, and negatives of this thing, that I figure it's not up to me to have a hard edged opinion one way or the other. Congress pisses me off but so do the A$$HOLES that keep denouncing the American efforts to stabilize this place. (BTW...I cant even begin to find the words of disgust towards the BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPING monsters that protest at the funerals. When I saw those sonsa*****es on the news, it made me so furious that I thought I might explode). Sorry, off topic...You have provided just the information that I need. I guess the only other question that I have, is that if I contact the BSM,s...can I make specific request that I would like it to be sent to a particular division/ company etc...? Or do I simply send my pkg to them and let them take it from there? (You see...I really wanted to write on sides of the box "JKFORUM SUCKS"...I guess that might not be appropriate regardless of who the pkg goes to. Maybe eddies mom is a BSM as well...dunno.) The questions are legitimate...the last comment, maybe not so much...lol BE SAFE/ GODSPEED...
