The Anti-Squat values for RK JK products have changed a lot this year with the all new X2 geometry which is very similar to what we did on the JL platforms. Just a FYI is all.

RK has also always offered "conventional" anti-squat long arm set ups with The Adventure Series Long Arm Systems. Consumers always have the power of choice...

cool.
I was just antagonizing dirtman but I don't think it worked. :frown2:
it's cool you guys take such in-depth concerns for your product . Keep it up !!

Damn, I believe JKO as we know it will be entirely dead in about a month.

This is our "new normal" per admin.: https://www.wranglerforum.com/

Hope I'm wrong, but I believe I'll be over it with a quickness :(

It's been nice knowing y'all. :beer:

Hello all,

Quick update as we will start preparing the community with premigration work this week so you might see some section renaming or other stuff shuffling around.

NOTE:
We will be removing the land user stars and vendor stars and we will be having a new "tagging" system for that post-migration.

We will be moving to the same format as https://www.wranglerforum.com/ so drop in there and give it a look.

Jeff M
P.S. - I suggest printing to PDF threads you use as references, in case it's all fooked by "upgrades" :cwm13:

EDIT: Pirate is getting the same transgender surgery, so this is a 1-2 punch in the 'nads :(

Oh my fuck.

Somebody needs to start a forum where membership pays for the overhead. No adds, no bs.

I know of one forum still like this. Corner-Carvers.com. They actually have a couple good rules.

Rule #1. Fucking search. Find a thread that falls under your question and ask your question in it. Makes threads long, but keep all relevant info together.

Rule #2. Bring the tech.

That's it.

Honest question. What does it cost to start a forum?

Whatever... I don't come here for the cutting edge web design....

A few of us old timers understand each other, plus some useful tech, and maybe some other entertaining stuff thrown in over the last decade.... I could give a crap about what shiny skin they throw on it...

The new website is probably designed by 19 yoa web designer who probably is totally into gaming and has never once driven a jeep or busted a knuckle. They will tell you over and over how great it is and outdated the old forum was and it is the greatest thing ever and you are stupid if you liked the old one better. As dead as this forum is it will be non existent come the change over. They will tell you over and over that initially there will be a drop in activity but then there will be a surge upward...100% driven by people who do not have a clue how jeepers are.

To start? Probably around $250-$500/mo depending on hosting options.

Depending on your traffic, it will go up for sure. There are forums out there that easily have 5 figure / mo operating costs.
I would bet that WAL runs on dedicated compute, meters 10's of TiBs of traffic and uses a CDN to deliver video / images. Probably easily 15-20k/mo. Factor in the depreciation of compute gear and your SW licensing it could be more per month. But that would be for an established property.

I'm willing to invest in hosting and eventually if needed, compute / collocation / DNS and CDN services in exchange for an equitable share of ownership and an agreement that the forum is not a business, it's a hobby that covers the cost of doing business only. I may not be popular but my money is reliable and green. I'm also willing to handle the books and taxes.

EDIT. I think we would be better off seeing if VS would sell the property as-is.

There's more to it than that.
I believe vBA is no longer being developed. Its full of vulnerabilities and a ticking timebomb to manage. Xenforo has developer support and security. When Admin or a VS support person tells you how great the (new) forum is, they are speaking from a manageability and risk standpoint not how cool its content is or how nostalgic it is.

Right now, JKO on vBA is probably burning up $$$ with idle CPU cycles and several U of rackspace. With Xenforo, it will be run as a microservice on some K8s cluster and will operate for fractional pennies on the dollar. It makes sense to move to modern infrastructure. It's going to suck, but it makes sense.

Hellcat.org turned into that. Everyone bailed and they started a new hellcatforum.org in a couple of days.

. As slow as this site it is time to post the headstone. RIP. They keep telling us how cool the new look is and finally getting with the times. It was developed by kids not anyone who know how 50-60 year jeepers think..personally I think it is there way of moving us old guys out to pasture. I guess if there is no one left it should be easy to manage but you would think vendors and sponsors would eventually put their wallets back in their pants.

They're not trying to move anyone out. It's about maximizing ad revenue and minimizing costs - period. The opinions of the community members are irrelevant. Those who know they're destroying the user experience can't admit it, and many/most of them have no clue what's being lost.

It's nothing personal, it's just business. Get back in your bin, product! :thefinger:

I agree. And it's a bummer, but nothing ever lasts.

It looks like vendors are already jumping ship. Whether its because they don't want to be heckled or they see the writing on the wall, it doesn't matter. The end is nigh.

I tried using WF and after 5-10 min, I gave up. I feel like I hit a wall on being able to see the bigger picture. The participation trophies, trendiness and hip-cool-snowflakiness of it does not appeal to me -- but, to some young guy with money to burn on tazers, nerf-bars, pedal commanders and lightbars, it's a treasure-trove.

We're just a bunch of old dudes on the sidelines. We (I?) just sit and bitch and don't spend no money. haha.

I absolutely understand the need to upgrade this site and others. I'm sure unsupported software and aging infrastructure contributed to their last two data breaches.

As @ExWrench mentioned, I just hope the old tech threads survive the conversion and can still be referenced.

@j3ff3ry_j33p can always get a job polishing my participation trophies *wink* *wink*

Wasnt that what JKFreaks was supposed to be as well as a spawn of all those banned from here? (Oh the irony)

I think forums in general are dead, regardless of what they look like.

Agree. I remember being butthurt when Usenet stopped being a thing. I had to get my pornography elsewhere.

Why not just ignore all the stupid Gen Z crap and just do the forum, don't let it do you.

So what if we all end up looking like this?

@Mrs_j33p: j3ff3ry are you still in the bathroom?
@j3ff3ry_j33p: Just a minute mom!
@Mrs_j33p: What are you doing in there j3ff3ry??
@j3ff3ry_j33p: I said Just a minute mom!!!!
@Mrs_j33p: *opens door* j3ff3ry!!!!!!!!!
