Hey gang i have to replace my bent tie rod. I am going with OEM (cost vs safety right now)....and i was wondering how hard is it to replace? I know i undue the TRE's and the whole thing should be fall out (i am guessing with mallet help) and then i bolt the new tie rod (i am pretty sure it comes with stock TRE's) in? Will it need to be adjusted or does it come set to factory specs? how hard is it so bang it out? Can i do it in my parking lot or should i go to u-fix it and rent a bay? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as i have a DW that pops up at 60mph and i need to fix the bent tie rod ASAP :).

No big deal to replace. Take off the mounting u-bolts for the steering stabilizer, undo the nuts on the tie rod ends, and remove. I whacked mine with a 5 lb. sledge, and they came right out. You can do this without messing up the tie rod threads, but it doesn't matter since you are replacing everything. If your tie rod is too bent to get a decent measurement, perhaps you can measure one on another JK. I replaced mine with an aftermarket tie rod, got it close to the oem center-to-center measurement, then checked the toe-in measurement a couple of times after bolting it on, and adjusted 'til it was dead on. This is definitely a driveway project, with no special tools needed. It helps if you have someone to help with the toe-in measurement, but I did it alone.

Did you see my post in the other thread? You can have my slightly-bent OEM tie rod for free if you want. The ends are in great shape and it has plenty of room for adjustment.

I did thank you! I may take you up on it. I have always said if i break i replace it with new (usually upgraded), but i can't afford the currie HD tie rod so OEM will have to work for now. My toe is so bad that fighting the DW caused my less than 6 month old steering stabilizer to blow out. I am going to have to wait about another month though to afford the OEM so yours might work until then (at least it might be a little safer...or maybe i can adjust mine a little.....not sure how bent is too bent. Anyone up by DeerValley airport willing to take a look at it or help? I have tried adjusting the tie rod alone in the past and made it much much worse.

ok new question....went to help a friend with a broken steering stablizer and when we went to put the new one on instead of being in line with the mounting bracket (with one end bolted to the tie rod). Instead it trys to come back across the tie rod. I am pretty sure it is the tie rod bent back a little but has anyone ever had the bracket on the tie rod that holds the stabilizer ever bend? And as my tie rod is jacked i am not sure how to tell if it is her tie rod or her tie rod mounting bracket for the steering stabilizer?
