can't be

if one defines the sky as blue in daytime it's because of the tyndall effect. which is the sunlight being scattered because of the atmosphere showing mostly the blue color.... combination of space and atmosphere.

at night it's black because there is no sunlight overwhelming the light from other stars, which appear white and other colors due to the same atmosphere in the absence of the bright overwhelming light from our star, the sun
