I just finished a Jss swap. If you want details let me know but it cost me closer to 15k doing the install myself. I paid around 6k for a very low mileage engine/trans and around 6300 for kit with exhaust/radiator and the rest little items you will need.

I would do it again in a heartbeat, went together great and doesn't overheat. Just plan ahead and have ALL the parts before you start or you will be waiting on things.

Thats what I needed to see! Thanks!

The JSS kit for $3500 does not include the radiator or exhaust components. Add those 2 in plus a computer core charge and you are over $5k. The AEV kit seems much more complete.
Always a catch......fuckers. I think I would do the LS. When it happens I won't do it myself, it's beyond my skill level.

Yes, details please! What year truck/trans? 5.7? VVT? What else do you need that the JSS kit doesn't come with? Not hating on your setup, but this seems like another nod towards the AEV kit.

Well. Ill leave out the stuff from converting a manual to an auto but his 3500 kit still needs o2 sensors, trans adapter, and more. There is a bill of materials on his website. I used a 2013 5.7vvt out of a truck with the 545rfe trans so I had to buy the solenoid and valve body for the trans. And that engine price you are quoting was a non vvt out of a Cherokee or the like and don't have the horsepower of the truck engine. Also I thing low mileage non-vvts are getting harder to find. Just some first hand experience for you.

Talk to Todd as JSS too. He is a good guy. If I was going to do another hemi swap, I would be doing his kit.

I just bought a computer from JSS for my hemi. Very different programming than BOR or AEV. (Todd, you'll have to explain details). My conversion has parts from JSS and BOR, even though it was a AEV kit.

Superchargers work well too. So on trails whether it is hemi or SC, I suppose, doesn't matter much--the performance will be fine. On road, I'd give the nod (slightly) to a hemi.

I havent looked in a while but I think you will be hard pressed to find a hemi engine and trans for 1500 (AEV conversion kit is 5549 as example). Who is doing 3500 in labor for the swap?

Motech kit starts at 5200 and you can def find a 5.3 for less than the cost of a hemi. The 6.2 is a totally different animal though...
But if you do a 5.3. you can always go 5.7 with junkyard rods and crank, or 383 with aftermarket. You will never have the bore to run the bigger heads, but there are MANY 700hp turbo 5.3's out there... and since its not a hemi you CAN tune it all you want for a remote turbo or roots blower.

We installed the Magnuson charger on our shop JKU back in October with 99K on the clock. Original engine and trans and still running strong nearly 10K later. This is a heavy, daily driven JKU on 37" tires with lots of armor. The charger is no way a replacement for a V8 swap. However, bang for the buck it's a great option. CJ

I've run the RIPP supercharger for at least 50k miles, and currently have about 96k on my 08 2dr. I ran 37's until last year when I went to 42's and my jeep is heavy with bumpers etc. Still runs strong and have no issues at this time.
Good luck and always a hard choice... bigger is always better. (joke)

if you able to do the work yourself i'd go V8, that extra 4k for labor is what's slapping me in the face. i think with the help of some buddies we could do it, but the chance that it'd be the biggest clusterfuck in history is pretty high. i like the LS but the hemi install seems to be possibily a bit easier to do on your own.

and last i checked a 5.7 hemi and 5.3 LS was identical in price from JSS.

the tranny in our 2012 WK2 makes me wana slap someone so for that reason alone i will hope for an LS when the time comes
