Starting my 2nd JK build. It won't be as big or bad as Slippery l, but I think we'll enjoy it just the same or more, and use it a lot more as well.

Lower so the wife and kids can get in and out easier, and smaller tires so we can drive it anywhere more comfortably.

Planning to do as much as possible in the garage. I'm just getting started with the
ROCK KRAWLER JK 3.5" X FACTOR SYSTEM w/ 2.5" SPRINGS

Then I'll add some products from MISCH4X4, some POISON SPYDER bumpers and Armor, and some RACELINE WHEELS. Then we'll see what's next.

:thankyou:

So I have my Rock Krawler instructions out, Jeep on stands, and I'm ready to start.

It does ride good and drives good too! I think you'll be happy with 35s, probably not so much with 37. Hmmm, seems like six months ago you were trying to talk me out of 37s. LOL.
I know! lol That's the dilemma. Need 37's for the trail and 35's for the skreet.

All I have to judge it against is the 40's I was running on Slippery 1.
Not sure on the tires yet. Lack of availability in BFG-KM2's and GY-MTR's leave one to ponder. :gluging:

Might wait on MTR's, looking at the Toyo...

Not sure 35's or 37's due to the driveability being VERY important.
Wait on the MTR's and go 37. If you hate them I'll swap you my 35's and few bucks.

There, that was easy :koolaid:

How were the 40's on the street? I've never driven one with that size tire.

The 40's were fine, but the power was lacking even with 5.38's. When I first mounted them on the Rubi wheels it drove really good. After I added hydraulic assist and the beadlocks, it wasn't quite as good.
Did you get the Moog TREs to work with the RK Tie rod?

Nope. The threads were bad so I returned them.

Wait, what? why were the moog TREs no good?

read it elsewhere as well. Evidently they had a bad batch, some bent, some bad threads, etc. The threads looked awful. Must of been some bad chatter in the machine.
Hey Slippery,

I had a question about the lift install, since I have been following this thread.
You said you are using the RK 3.5 with the 2.5 springs, and this is what I had thought about doing when I got to putting a lift on.
So as far as the install went did you still use all the 3.5 parts and just keep your stock rear track bar?
I had asked RK about doing this and I was told that the 3.5 rear track bar is over bent for the 2.5 lift, and that my rear axle would not be centered in the rear wells because the control arms are longer.
Do you think bigger tires are going to rub the rear bumper under compression?
Anyway I saw your build going and you did just what I wanted to do, it looks great and I can't wait to see it all come together.

Thanks
Mark
i know its only been a few days but anything else done?

I second this question
Are you going to have this thing put back together for Morris Mountain next weekend?:gluging:
i know its only been a few days but anything else done?
No, have been home 1 day in 2 weeks.

I did use all of the 3.5 parts. I installed the rear track bar bracket and track bar. At a glance the axles looked OK/centered, and it drives great, but I did not center the rear axle to perfection yet as I had a plane to catch.

The track bar should be adjusted to center it at ride height on a level pad. My rear uppers are as short as they will go, and the lowers are adjusted for pinion angle. The track bar is set at 1/8" less than the 3.5 dimension in the instructions. I'll take a close look this weekend.

The tires won't hit my bumpers as the stock bumpers will not be on long. Just waiting on a SHIPMENT! :th_pray:

It's together, but not ready for that. Might come and ride shotgun with somebody.

Pictures of progress?
Gorgeous weather today, but was gone most of the weekend, and got home late afternoon, and pulled the hardtop, and lifted it to the garage ceiling for safe keeping.

Installed the soft top most of the way, and wife said I needed to do some grillin, so I''ll finish it tomorrow night.

Poison Spyder skid should arrive VERY soon....

Nope. The threads were bad so I returned them.
I havent had any experience with MOOG, but I know that RK recommends against them. They say to pay xtra and purchase the factory replacements or the crowns, which are the exact same from what I understand.

not 100% true. I have the moog ends and they are way nicer than stock. Only reason RK mentioned anything about them in the past is because there was a bad batch of moogs that didnt thread in correctly. That and there are some vendors online on ebay and stuff that are selling fake moog gear.
