Guess I hit the limiter on my way home from work today.
Dash indicated 100, GPS said 98 :shaking: and it just powered down for a couple of seconds then came back.

Are you running stock tires still? The limiter is set to the speed rating of the factory issued tires. If you've put aftermartket tires on, they may not have the same speed rating.

Some good info below, as lifted fron the TireRack.

Beginning in 1991, the speed symbol denoting a fixed maximum speed capability of new tires must be shown only in the speed rating portion of the tire's service description, such as 225/50R16 89S. The most common tire speed rating symbols, maximum speeds and typical applications are shown below:

M 81 mph 130 km/h
N 87 mph 140km/h Temporary Spare Tires
P 93 mph 150 km/h
Q 99 mph 160 km/h Studless & Studdable Winter Tires
R 106 mph 170 km/h H.D. Light Truck Tires
S 112 mph 180 km/h Family Sedans & Vans
T 118 mph 190 km/h Family Sedans & Vans
U 124 mph 200 km/h
H 130 mph 210 km/h Sport Sedans & Coupes
V 149 mph 240 km/h Sport Sedans, Coupes & Sports Cars

BTW, my old SS shut down at 155. What a ride......

yeah, stock Rubi 32" MTRs
My old supercharged harley pickup was factory limited to 128 but that got taken care of when it got tuned for all the motor mods :innocent:
My S2000 was good for 163 with no limiter from the factory.
My bike has seen 198 according to GPS.
Things happen REAL fast at those speeds!

Considering the aerodynamics of the JK, I'd say 100 is probably good enough
I can only imagine the gyroscopic force at work trying to spin those tires apart at that speed with those big MTR lugs :mr-t:

s2000 has no limiter? I am surprised I thought all cars did. My evo was 160 from the factory. Needless to say that was one of the first things to go! :D

For the Evo there is a group of people that hacked the ECU and left thier software open source. I miss that. I wish somebody could do that for the Jeep. Imagine the possiblities considering everything is controlled by the computer on the Jeep, Including lockers, ESP and the speedo! lol

I think going that speed in a vehical meant for low in gearing and off roading is a big risk to the driver, engine and others on the road. Do get me wrong here. I own a Porsche and it is designed and powered to reach high-end speeds. I would never take the 911 over rocks or mud.
So stick to the rivers and lakes that Jeep is designed to take on.

agreed, I would never take a 911 on the rocks because its not a jeep. BUT i wouldnt take a jeep on the river or lakes because its not a boat.

The first Suzuki 'Busa was 203 out of the box, they put the limiter on after the second year i think.

I hit my limiter a couple times, running 35s and 4.10s, no idea what the real speed would be.
