Are Sig 1911s any good? I've been kinda pondering picking up a 1911 for a while now. I don't need a top of the line custom job, but I don't want junk. I probably won't put tens of thousands of rounds through it, but I want something that will hold up well.

I saw a SIG 1911 at a local shop that really struck my fancy. It's really calling me to go back and pick it up, but I'd hate to find out that SIG 1911s have a poor rep. I think SIG overall is good, but I don't know about their 1911s.

Any thoughts?

Sig's are good quality guns. I like and own a 1911, Springfield, they shoot great and have good smooth trigger pulls. The first 500 rounds should break it in as they are tightly built. The Scorpion is a beauty!

Sig 1911's are nice , as Scuba says they are tight factory fresh.

When new I had a few and just a few FTF (failure to feed) issues until I had a few hundred rounds through it .But since then it has been flawless.
I used Mobile- 1 oil to breakin and lube well with Frog Lube now .

I have only had this one for less than a year now but , I'm happy with my Sig .

When you say "they've come a long way", does that mean their older ones had issues? I did some checking today and it turns out the one they have is a discontinued model (listed in the discontinued models section of Sig's website). Don't know if that's a bad thing, it just is what it is.

The shop is a newer shop that bought out all the stock from another shop that was run by one old guy who had passed away. So they have some pistols and rifles left from his stock. I don't doubt the 1911 I looked at is one of those.

If you want a 1911 buy a colt or Springfield. That's my opinion we can discuss the pros and cons of each if you want.

That said, Sig makes great hardware. You want be disappointed with its performance but don't get your feelings hurt when the purists give you a hard time about the goofy looking extractor.

My first Sig was a 1911.
It quickly became my EDC gun.
The fit, finish, accuracy and features were outstanding for the price.
I now own 4 other Sigs.

Don't own one but I have shot a base model sig 1911 many times and love it. A sig is what I will buy whenever I get around to picking one up.

I have a Sig 1911 Spartan model. I've only ran 100 rounds through it so far but it has run flawlessly. The one thing I recommend is NOT to compare any 1911 to a polymer gun lock a Glock. They are designed completely different. 1911 do require a 500 rounds "break-in" period since they are a metal slide/metal frame gun. Just like how a new car engine needs a break-in period. The Sigs get a rap from other 1911 owners due to having a more square slide then the traditional rounded slide and the external extractor. But they run just as a good as "traditional" 1911. There are several 1911 buyer guide videos on youtube you can check out. That Scorpion model you pictured is one of the most popular versions right now.
