ok ive searched and couldnt find any lockers that say they fit the JK.
i only have 33's and only do light wheeling so i dont think i need to replace or beef up the D30 yet. i also dont care to regear yet either.
im looking for a cheap setup that i can install myself.
either just front or just rear for now
im leaning towards front locker so it handles normal on the street
what do you recommend?

also, ive been looking at lunchbox lockers, is this just like having welded spiders?
please splain me how this works.

thanks guys

If you are looking for handling charateristics to not change then why do you plan to do the front? A locked front drives much different during cornering or turning.

I'm going to more than likely get an aussie to put in the front because it engages only when a wheel is turning faster than the other wheel. I would love to get a air actuated locker like the OX for the front but I decided the high end locker should be in the rear so I'm going ARB on the rear dana 44. (Ox is about 3-4 weeks out)

Any d30 locker will fit your d30 and any d44 will fit your d44. you need to get the higher ratio locker 3.73 and down and the 3.54 and down because of the thicker gears. I run the aussie up front. Cheap and easy to install.

Do you know this for solid fact about the D44? Reason I'm asking is because everyplace I wrote to said that nothing they had would fit the JK 44.
That's why I went with the Rubi rear axle. Now it all fits? That doesn't sound right....
Even the OX guy was on here a while back and said he didn't have a product that fit.

Yes I do. For the D44 you need the 3.54 and lower locker not the one for the 4.10's -5.13's. Your gears are thicker so you need the smaller ratio locker. A D44 is still a D44 (except on a ZJ)..
You are talking to some idiot rep that does not do any installs so if it doesn't say JK in the book then they think it won't work. Just because someone works for a company, doesn't mean they know about the product. Look at Jeep salesman for example.

Well I was talking to OX owner also and he said the same thing JohnL said.

They now have the locker available but it is just going into production.

We won't get a straight answer on this no matter how hard we try ;) My installer said the same thing igofshn stated. I however did not want to take the chance and have been waiting for a locker that has actually been installed in someone elses JK so that I know it fits. That why I ordered the ARB rear. If you can give me the part number of the aussie locker that is in your dana 30 I'd believe you more.

Listen to your installer.

The aussie I have is for any D30. I ordered the one for a TJ. A D30 is a D30. The difference is the thickness of the gears. The carriers are the same. JK's do not have these magical housings that are special. The internals are the same as any other Dana 30 or 44 axle.

Good info, thanks.
What locker are you running in the rear?

There are some differences with the internals, ie: gears, bearings, diffs, etc, with the 44's

The new 44's are not the same as previous ones.

JK Rubicon 44 Front Pinion
Inner bearing surface = 1.630"
Outer bearing surface = 1.375"

TJ Rubicon 44 Front Pinion
Inner bearing surface = 1.380
Outer bearing surface = 1.185"

JK Rubicon 44 Rear Pinion
Inner bearing surface = 1.625"
Outer bearing surface = 1.310"

TJ Rubicon 44 Rear Pinion
Inner bearing surface = 1.375
Outer bearing surface = 1.125"

JK Rubicon 44 Rear Axle Shafts
32 spline

TJ Rubicon 44 Rear Axle Shafts
30 Spline

JK Rubicon 44 Front Axle Shafts
30/32 spline

TJ Rubicon 44 Rear Front Shafts
30/30 Spline

The JK Rubicon front shafts are very similar in size to the TJ Rubicon front shafts, but the rear shafts of the JK are a little bigger.

Don't try using a TJ bearing kit or TJ shafts or TJ gears or a TJ locker on a JK 44, it will not fit. That's not to say that some aftermarket parts for the TJ 44's won't work on a JK, if you get the spline count right, right bearings etc, and an installer that knows what he's doing.
