Most everyone knows about Harlan. It has become a replacement for Tellico after it shut down, but one of the lesser known yet challenging and open public access wheeling spots in Kentucky is known as "Slade" in the Red River Gorge area. Gorgeous back country wheeling, plenty of technical challenges and scenery you will find no where else in the United States.

Well, surprise surprise, the USFS wants to shut it down.

This has been going on for a while, but it just got real. We need a voice on the east coast. I know everyone is pre-occupied with Johnson Valley and I've lent my support to that effort and will continue to do so, but us folks on the east coast tend to be forgotten when it comes to the fight.

The scoping notice just went up. They WILL be attempting to close Sand Lick down completely. It is MUCH worse than I thought. Additionally, the scoping notice is filled with some factually false information.

Please everyone come together on this. This is a true gem and the only true technically challenging wheeling in Kentucky left will be in Harlan. We need pressure coming from every direction on those that want to close the trails.

Can you be more specific about what we can do to help other than "come together"?

Give us an email address or something we can send comments to.
