any weight in front of the front axle or behind the rear axle centerline affects handling more so than things in the middle. On-road and higher speed handling more so than low speed off road. This is why I no longer have 300ish lbs of tire/rim/mount/swingaway/bumper hanging out back any more. I noticed a significant handling improvement when I moved the spare inside.
But as to your question
I would care less about the spare and more so about rigging my winch to be able to suck down the front suspension in a hardcore climb. THAT will make a huge difference with your nose in the sky.
