Lets start with what I did :D First things first is I wanted to ditch my HIDs. as much as I loved them they are fragile, same as ANY filament/electrode bulb. A good rock or even long term vibration will kill them. Replacement bulbs going for 30 buck a piece and even if they do survive Doc stupidity they still only have a life of around 3,000 hours. So durability and life was a big thing for me. Buy something ONCE and not worry about it.

Next is size...because size does matter :laughing: My current HID bar was fawking HUGE...(we will leave the football stadium and airport light comments alone) It being huge is a MASSIVE aerodynamic drag, even with my actuator that allowed me to lay it back.
And heavy, sorry but you can not mount individual HIDs on a bar above the windshield and not expect a tree or other item to whack into it. It needed a rack to be adjustable.

Here is the size difference between the 2

we are looking at 1/4 the size and wind drag.

21lbs lost :eek: my MPGs have gone up like 2mpg highway as well :laughing:

Anyway, power draw while running is close enough to leave it be, now the start up amps for 5 HIDs can easily hit 100a or more. So that means I had to have the correct wiring and fusing for each. that adds up the weight and was not included.

I installed it and it is STUPID easy to install. included complete harness, relays, fuses, switches..no custom shit needed. I had mine set up with floods on the outside and spot in the middle with each being switched (just ask and they will set it up how you want) and I did some testing. Mind you I NEED TO RE_DO THE LED PICS !! reason being is I aimed them too short :laughing: the spill was more than the HIDs and I ended up not taking this into consideration.

First is JUST the factory headlights.


Camera set to daylight ballance and all settings the same for all images.
Please also note that light color is subjective and will vary with camera settings. This setting best shown with a close match to the tru color I chose. You can pick the LED color with out any loss of lumen as the LED produces that color, not a filter.

12x18 signs were placed at 25', 50', 100' 200' 300' 400' for readability and being able to distinguish color by eye.

Last image for now till I re-shoot the LED series. This is all part of a MUCH bigger tech article that I am working on to cover electrical upgrades and modifications. From correct wiring and fusing to the stupid crap people do and should not :laughing:

Price breakdown, just lights and no hardware, cash to time:
Rigid 50" E series, $1,600, 50,000 hours life
average "generic" (LOTS of companies using the same rebadged housing/ballasts) 35w HID $125 x 5 = $625 for 3,000hrs. 47,000 hrs remaining. That would require 15 more bulbs PER LIGHT at $20-30 each to get the same life :eek:

ummm ya..you tell me what is a better cost per hour :laughing:

:laughing: start small and get some Duallys or 2x2's.....wait....don't do that :laughing: because you will be like a drug addict and pretty soon that little hit will not do it any more :laughing:

Looks good, someday ill spend the coin for one. But ill have to save for bail money as well because id be flashing all the idiots in cali that feel they need to drive with their higbeams on....

In the last light beam picture you are using D2s. I assume those are flood lights since you compared them to the stock fogs. That is very impressive. I have the normal Duallys and they disperse way too much. Those look great.

I gotta say though your comparison is a bit off. I dont think its quite fair to compare cost per hour on a light that most likely will never even hit the 3000 hour mark. If you use your lights for 125 straight 24 hour days let me know :laughing:
I mean youre right that the LEDs last a loooot longer and are waaaay more durable, i just dont feel like using cost per hour is a useable reason to rationalize a 1600 dollar light.

But on a serious note: I have already replaced 2 bulbs that just died/died. no reason and WAY under the life. The are still a filament/wire based bulb so vibration is not its friend :laughing:
You are right, the price is off..in many ways.
Even my "actual" price is not quite right. depending on who you get your HIDs from will dictate the price. Clones of mine (same housing/ballast/bulb different reflector) go from $129 to $250 each. Then if you go into 35w HIDs with an all metal housing (closest thing to what the Rigid LED is) you get into some STUPID high priced lights :eek:

yes, and they make the factory fogs look like a joke :laughing: they are a KILLER light for the price and small enough to plop anywhere.

I could clearly tell it was a chainlink fence and the bar was aimed with its center there. Camera was deliberately set dark to show a more defined light pattern and NOT some dramatic BS image.
