Doing some Google searches and only finding JKF chat.

Mine is leaking at both hardlines just behind the radiator.

Has anyone in the real world done this repair?

 

As an auto guy I'm following this thread.....

 

Just had both of mine done last week at the dealership under warranty...there were not leaking a tonne, but enough to leave drops. I've the paperwork at home....do you guys need me to check anything on it for you??

Is it leaking from the rubber/metal junction? Iv heard of people hacking off those clamp sections, flaring the pipe, and clamping a new rubber hose on. I think I read it in the LONG transmission cooler writeup thread on "the other forum".

2010 with 6,000 miles weeping tranny lines also!

 

I'm in.
Last monday was -30c and the line to the cooler burst around the rubber/metal joint (just behind the cooler).
Dealer checked it yesterday and they ordered new lines.
Still under warranty but the parts were 92$ for both lines.
Repair to be done next week.

 

We replaced these lines on yellow08rubicon's Jeep last weekend. They were also leaking from the junction where the rubber lines meet the metal lines. The removal/replacement was not very hard at all. You pull the little plastic cover off each end, then there is a small clip (like the ones that hold on window cranks) that has to be pushed out of the collars. Make sure you catch these when they go flying, they didn't come with his replacement lines. Give the line a tug and they pop them out of the tranny/radiator. The lines will leak fluid for a minute, but the lower opening of the tranny will leak until you place the new line into it, so make sure you have a quart of fluid to top it off before you drive away. The installation is just the opposite and it took us about 30 minutes to do (we had the Jeep up on lift). He contacted Peter at JustforJeeps.com for the lines, I can't remember how much he paid though. Hope that help!

I had the same problem with mine and when I was at the dealer for work on a recall I mentioned that they have been leaking and the replaced them under warranty for free.

 

Dropped mine at Dealer this morning. Have a Jeep buddy Service Writer. Getting lines replaced for $125 (his cost), out the door. Got lucky on this one.

Leaks were getting worse daily, with 40 degree temp swings.

 

Just an update to this thread...

Part number has been changed for the oil lines, it's now:

55056624-AC

Price has gone down too, it's now $28.95

 

Where you find them for that price???

 

Just picked up the lines from the dealer. $28.95 That's the dealer price, no discounts or anything. But you need to get calling, as were just sent to the dealers on Tuesday, and are on a major backorder at this point.

I was thinking about taking a pair of metal tubing cutters and cutting that dumbass flare fitting off, and using clamps, and some barb fittings to fix the damn things. Are the new part # differant than the one that is currently on these things, if not I bet you will have the same problem a few thousand miles laterissed:

 

mine does the same thing, think id rather cut that metal to rubber junction off since the new ones will prob leak also.

worse case is they leak also then you can replace the whole line with the new one from dealer.

 

anybody have any idea on how much pressure we're dealing with? would compression fittings work??

 

i have no idea but my old auto TJ just had 2 hose clamps on them.

 

yeah, i've done that before, and i've also has them blow off at highway speed.....and it was the engine oil!

 

I cut my hard lines, flared the tubes, and put in tranny cooler line with a hose clamp at each end for extra safety. The soft line is the best.... you can run it how you like and if you have a failure in the field, it is very easy to replace.

 

I got tired of the lines leaking and didnt really want any hose clamps. Flared the lines and used some aeroquip fittings and line..

 

Well, thats kinda rare, looks like your using the same "finned" aluminum as I do for my #2 aux cooler--

Any tips on how to access the lines? Where did you get the tool to disconnect the lines? For those of you that cut and flared, did you remove the lines or just work on them while connected in the Jeep?

clip in a fitting?

I thought there was a clip in the nut, and the net screwed into the transmission. if you can get to the clip, pull it out, and the line should pop out at the transmission. put the clip back in, put the new line in and your done.

well, i haven't seen a clip. i've seen the plastic cover, popped one of those off, didn't see a clip. i was more wondering how to get to the fittings themselves. did you take out the front driveshaft to get to the fittings on the transmission? remove the overflow bottle to get to the front fittings?

 

There is a small metal clip inside the fitting, if you take them out don't loose them. The only way to get them is with the hole fitting unless you can get it some place aftermarket.
