Hi...will a 42RLE from a 2003 4x4 swap in to replace a bad 42RLE that's in a 2005 2x4? Any differences between the 2x4 and 4x4 trannys?

Also, if I could fine one, would a 45RFE swap in to replace the bad 42RLE, and again any differences between 2x4 vs 4x4?

Not sure if the trannys are different or if the 4x4 simply adds a t-case.

Thanks!

Just a suggestion, but maybe you should ask you question in the right sections as this does not have anything to do with a JK model Jeep.

yep.
OP probably will get better answers on the sister site, pirate4x4.com to that non-JK question. :jeep2:

partial answer, a 545rfe will Not bolt in place of a 42rle trans. while JK's did have the 42rle's up to 2011, don't know if they are the same as 2003 or 2005's...
