Just insert a thin screwdriver & turn at 1 o'clock and turn the vent left & pop them out. Watch Gunnys video.
Hey thanks guys! Got them out and painted them just letting them dry...
Anyone have an idea on how to paint all the plastic chrome pieces black? Seems like a huge undertaking, but i would love to get rid of all of it.

Yep. Remove them. Scratch all the shine off of them with a green or red scotchbrite scratch pad, clean and spray. Make sure you get ALL of the gloss off, or your paint wont stick. I like to use some "adhesion promoter" spray, before I paint on plastics. Its a bit more of an undertaking than non-chrome items but it should work.
