This doesn't fit too well into the equation either:

https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B25xUd_xT-tYLVFyaFZtMktSc2l1dnR4MzJ5aWxlZw

If the head change tech didn't reset the oil change indicator according to this page it would be going off at 3,500 miles if the oil was bad.

But the oil shouldn't be any older than 2,500 miles.

And then you have the guy at this dealership claiming the indicator is strictly a mileage counter set to go off at 3,000 miles, and not a measuring device of how bad the oil is, and this puts him out in left field with bad info...

:suicide:

Some say that the oil change light comes on whenever some sensor determines that the oil has deteriorated to the point it needs replacement. I say that's BS, as mine has come on at 2500 miles like clockwork. I change my oil every 5K.

The dealer that did the 8k service told me Jeep doesn't use synthetic oil, so that's not a good thing longevity wise.

Sad, and hard to believe in this day and age, but true.

Our Mercedes has a 10k service range on synthetic. And a BMW we had was going 20k on average with synthetic before the computer would show it needing changed.

Well you have to see "sensor" in a very broad sense in that regard. There is no actual physical sensor that measures viscosity, contamination levels, ...etc. of the oil instead it is a calculation done by the computer based on various variables like engine run time, RPM, Load , temperature,... and out of this it determines if the oil change is to be done at severe or normal duty mileage.
To me North America oil change intervals are more driven by Oil Industry greed than actual oil performance issues. Chrysler should change the oil change ding to a cash register Cha-Ching instead ;)

Stopped at a Jeep dealership in Georgia today. Explained that the head had been changed at 9,000 miles and the change engine oil light had come on slightly over 2,500 miles later. The service tech said the engine had done a "mileage and rpm calculalation and concluded an oil change was needed."

I told him the owner's manual says no such calculation should occur sooner than 3,500 miles. He repeated it was due for an oil change.

I then asked the guy what the owner's manual oil change mileage was?

He said 6,000 miles.

I told him the book said 8,000 miles.

He said "they must have changed it."

Then he said they always tell customer's every 3,000 miles.

I guess this idiot figured out I wasn't going to pay them to change the oil, so he offered up how to turn the oil change light off.

And here it is:

Turn the key to the "on" position.

Press the gas pedal to the floor three times.

Turn the key back off.

Wait a couple of seconds and start the engine.

:gluging:

Common sense would indicate that you would have to know what an owner's manual says for the vehicles you sell and maintain, but I digress, again.

I took my 2012 Rubi (built 11/11) in about 6 weeks ago with the same issue - PO304 code reading. I was told by the dealer they needed to replace the cylinder head but it was on back order and I would have to wait. However I was also told that I could continue to drive my Jeep until the parts came in. I just got word yesterday that the parts should arrive this Thursday so I made an apt. to take it in on Friday.

I have noticed that the fuel economy is crap and the ticking noise has progressively gotten worst. I think I was told some erroneous information from the dealer to continue to drive my jeep while I was waiting for the parts. I have driven almost 2000 miles since I last took it into the dealer. Do you think I could have damaged other systems in my Jeep by driving it until the parts arrived?

No the problem in all the pentastars is in the left heads. The reman head comes built with all new parts. It'll be ok. Mpg getting worse cause of the miss from that cylinder. The guide and valve are getting worse

But will driving 2000 miles with that miss fire cause any damage to my bottom end (crankshaft) or even to the piston and rings in cylinder #4?

If you doubt what I'm saying visit carfax and punch in this vin# 1C4BJWFG4CL113336 which another Rubicon owner posted in the radio thread. He has three entries.

Then punch in my Vin# 1C4BJWFG7CL110396 and you'll see that I have five entries...

www.carfax.com

You've got 6 entries now.

A recording system like this would not go astray here. We have very little protection from lemons.

Yeah, it sucks to be the owner of the "6 Carfax entries."

I care so little about this Jeep anymore I even took it to Wal*mart for its last oil change. Of course they didn't have an oil filter for it (nor did a lot of other places), so I had to go hunt one down and bring it back.

It's still pinging/detonating since the head change during slow, low rpm ascents on any road. I'm hoping a couple of the pistons pop out of that integrated exhaust manifold.

The amount of entries you have on carfax doesn't mean a damn thing. I bought my Nissan Frontier new and when I traded it in it had several carfax entries. Stupid things like the dealer checked the tire pressure. Carfax generally isn't that great. I had a few issues with my truck covered under warranty but none of those things showed up on carfax. It's all about what the dealer decides to send them somehow.

MIL Light Is Back On

Went for a two hour drive yesterday, stopped and got fuel, started it back up, and the MIL light was on again. I originally started this thread and had the left head replaced at 9,000 miles. Now have around 26,000.

Flipped the key numerous times and couldn't get it to display a code. Then finally it briefly flashed a P0302 code while I was flipping the key back forth. I tried getting it to repeat it, but all it does is take a very long time with the dashes and then displays done, but the MIL light is still on. Drove at least another 125 miles, turning it on and off several times getting home. Still on.

Have an appointment at the dealer this morning, I'll post the results. If the head is bad again, I'm going to be really pissed....

(Checked the gas tank top, was on and not loose)
