oil pressure sensor and switch? repair cost?

Jeep is stalling while drivign and not starting. Then 15 mins later starts and runs fine until another random shutdown. Check engine code is oil pressure sensor. Mechanic is saying the problem is oil pressure sensor and oil pressure switch and that fix will be $1500. Everything I've read doesn't seem like that would be the problem OR that it should cost that much to replace those two parts on a JK? Talking about having to take out the intake to replace switch, does any of this sound right?

Welcome to the forum! It would depend on where you live and the year of your JK. If you do a Google search of what does it cost to replace an oil pressure sensor of the year/Jeep Wrangler it will give you an idea based on your region. They're somewhat accurate. If it is a 3.6L the upper intake manifold has to come off. At that point you might consider replacing the spark plugs , depending on miles, and consider replacing the oil cooler/filter assembly too.

It’s not too difficult to do yourself. Mine was acting similar but more codes than just oil pressure sensor. Mine turned out to be exposed wires on the pigtail to the oil pressure sensor. Either way, your intake needs to come off. It’s in the valley, back by the transmission. As mentioned before, good time to change plugs and coils if needed. I’d get a set of intake gaskets as well. Check your oil cooler for any leaks. It’s in the valley below intake as well. You will need to remove the oil temp sensor which is directly above it. Hardest part is removing intake and that’s not all that bad. Watch some videos. Shouldn’t take but a few hours. Definitely cheaper than $1500. I think the sensor is around $60 and upper and lower gasket set is around $75. I post a pic of location if I can find it. What codes are you getting?
A picture of where to look. The sensor is in the upper part of the picture. It's a PITA to access. But, not difficult.
