Oil Catch Can Reservoir

I bought an oil catch can last Fall, but then I saw through research that maybe a daily driver such as mine had no real need of it. For the past year or more, my '15 JKU has been used as my DD for on-road, mostly for shorter trips, so no steep offroad inclines/declines, or off-camber driving. So the can assembly sat on my workbench for a month or more. Then, looking for a project around Christmas, I installed it, not really expecting to see any significant results.

Of course, I did routine maintenance and fluid checks, etc.; I'd seen no noticeable oil consumption.

Yesterday, I thought to check the reservoir and I was surprised to find an accumulation of ounces of oil and a milky froth in the can and filter medium. (I'm guessing that the milky crap is from winter condensation.) But my surprise was with the amount of blow-by oil that had been caught, especially with a daily driver. I suppose that the oil otherwise would have harmlessly (?) passed through the exhaust, but I'm glad that I collected it, instead.

I too was a little surprised at the volume. I have to believe it helps keep things much cleaner and threw one in the wife's grand cherokee also.

I bought the catch can kit from TereFlex for my 2015 Wrangler. I haven't installed it yet. A friend of mine has it on her jeep, and it fixed the smoking issue, when she was climbing at steep angles.

Yep, steep grades is the only time that it maybe useful.
I bought a catch in late December, but I have not installed it on my 2016 JKU. I have an upcoming long trip from California to Georgia and I will install this kit finally to see if it really works. Hopefully, I can help the Jeep and the engine. I will also see if I can install the iDrive Pedal Controller to see if it helps out with the responsiveness.

Interesting... that's more than I would have guessed.

Wow! That's a lot of oil going back into the motor. Thank you for the picture; time to save my motor.
It has about the same amount each time I empty. I usually just do it when the oil/filter are due. The cumulative amount is what gets me. This amount x 4 annually is probably near half a court + over the year.
