I just installed a pair of off road lights on my grill guard, but they keep on shorting before they even turn on. The fuse burns out, so I tried using different fuses (10, 15, 20, 25, 30), but they all shorted and burned out. So I disconnected one of the ground wires from one of the lights and replaced the fuse. This allowed for the light that was still connected to turn on but when I attempt to touch the disconnected ground wire to a metal source, it sparks and the light starts to dim. I'm not an electrical expert whatsoever so I have no idea what to do next. HELP PLEASE!:bawling:

they are 100watt halogen bulbs with just one output, no high or low beam. Sorry about my wording, but each light only has one ground wire. So if both of the ground wires are connected to a metal surface, the fuse blows. But if I disconnect one of the ground wires, the light that still has its ground wire connected turns on. When I attempt to connect the disconnected ground wire while the other light is on, the light that was already on starts to dim. The wording isn't much better, but its kinda hard to explain. I just want them to work :bawling:

Sounds interesting

I'd start by taking the lights apart and looking for a problem in the housing. Where are you located at? I like a challenge.

how are they wired up? relays? harness and switch that came with the lights? where are you getting your power for the relays from (2 sources)? are you sure you are grounding to a good spot (where paint isn't preventing a good ground)?

3 Tools

For the most part you only need three things in your tool box.

1. Duct Tape
2. WD 40
3. A Hammer

If it moves and should not then use the duct tape.
If it does not move and should then use the WD 40
If you can not fix it with a hammer then it is most likely an electrical problem!

I think that is engraved on a gold plaque at my local Chrysler service dept. :shaking:
