Do anyone know how this dispersed camping works. They say you can camp anywhere you want in the forest. Is this safe? I really don't want to camp at a crowded campground. Want something primative, but still safe. Any help, thanks.

Use common sense and you'll be fine... Good spots north of 40 on 11 (IIRC, old 88), first road past rifle range, head west and there's plenty of clearings. Google earth works well for scouting areas.

Some of the best spots are near rodman dam between Salt Springs and Palatka, to the West of hwy 19. Haven't heard of the rainbow folks in that area, they usually hang South of 40, but they are mobile.

Lake Ocklawaha RV park is a decent place with quick access to some of the better trails in the forest, This park is near Rodman Dam

Be damned sure to keep on marked roads. Sometimes the rangers act like they don't want anyone there.

Be careful about packing heat, the rangers can get shitty real fast. Check the laws first.

Technically you can stay in any one spot for 14 days, then you have to move

Where are you coming from?

I'm over in the Daytona area, I have never been to any spots in ONF, I wasn't sure what it is like. I think I will explore a little before attempting to camp. Thanks for the info.

Take FR (forest road) 11 South of 40 to FR 14 intersection and there's big scrub campground. No hookups but they have facilities. There's a charge for it but don't think it's too much.

That'll get you feet wet as far as forest camping goes, loads of roads and trails out there. If you get lucky the jets will be making runs at the bombing range. You can get to range boundary and there's roads that circle it.

Bombing range is east on FR 22 from FR 11

Hopefully I have the new road numbers correct. I use google earth to look stuff up.
