My cousin recently came out, but considering he's 6'6" and close to 300# there's really not a whole lotta kids at his school that would have the stones to fuck with him about it. Same deal though. His dad was like "uh, you're still my kid. Doesn't change a thing except that Mom can start buying you pink shit now".
