Hi All,

Just got a new 2010 Sahara unlimited. Thinking of a lift kit 3", and bigger tires - maybe 35's?

If I went this route, what are the trade offs? How much will this reduce my gas mileage? How much added ground clearance is gained?

What is the effect on highway road handling?

thanks in advance!

the amount of ground clearance will depend. If you do a 3" lift you will make the body sit about 3" higher off the axles.

The amound of clearence under the axles will depend on what size tires you go with. Stock tires are about 31" so if you went to a 35 you would gain about 2 inches under your axles.

So in theory your rig would be 5" taller overall. ( 3" lift + (4" - .5 Tire difference) =5")

Just enjoy your new ride and fill up when you need to.:) If you are concerned about gas mileage you just wasted 25K! Sorry, but Jeeps have NEVER gotten anything even respectable when it comes to gas mileage and they never will. They are built to run offroad and be used on the pavement as an expensive and uncomfortable form of transportation. I'm sure this comment will raise a few feathers but anyone who thinks otherwise has never driven a nice road vehicle.

One more thing: I was also told your braking suffers when you increase tire size due to the added mass and larger diameter of the bigger tires...
