I noticed the holes in the top of the rail in the rear of the Jeep. What would be considered the bed rail on a truck, if that helps.

For Pickups, they make products that insert in to stake holes in pickup bed rails, that convert them into easily usable tie-down points.

Is there a similar product for the much smaller oval holes in the Jeep?

I plan on carrying photographic equipment in the rear (rear seat removed) and want to string some simple dividers or nets across to keep stuff from shifting around.

I would prefer not to put hooks into the stock holes and wear the paint off (One more spot for corrosion). A tie-down you can insert there would also provide a more secure point to attach those nets/dividers.

I saw that someone had used angle iron to make tie-downs and I am know I could come up with something, I was just curious if I was trying to reinvent the wheel.

Not sure if the non hardtop models have the nutserts, but yah, just make your own. I don't know of anybody making any fancy tie downs to go there. Might not be a bad idea for somebody.
probably could then get an eyebolt with washer and nut that would fit the hole

angle iron probably wouldn't be necessary

you could just get some flat metal and then weld whatever type of tiedown would work and bolt the whole piece to the top of the tub

there are roll bar clamps that you could probably make some attachment point for a tie down and also the seat bolts in the floor

This prolly isn't what you are looking for since you are wanting something for the tub rails, but these tie downs are pretty nice and heavy duty and mount to the floor of the Jeep which will give you a more secure tie down since it will wrap around your gear. Just thought I would post it as an idea (Bodyguy pointed these out to me at the local Tractor Supply and they are now in my trailer and a few other locations)

They are a two piece design. The botton piece (male and femal threaded sleeve) mounts through the tub of the jeep and is secured with the nut shown and some wasshers.

Once the bottom piece is secured in the tub, the eyelet screws into the sleeve.

Screw it all the way down and your good to go. When you aren't using it, unscrew them and throw them in the glove box (if they are in the way). Just for reference, the eyelet is approx. 1.5-2" inside diameter.

Those are really cool... they could work in the rails as well with a couple of washers and some gasket to protect paint.

Never seen that before, but I will have to see if I can find some.

I don't know if they will work in the rails, but might.

The sleeve requires a 1/2" hole if I remember correctly.

Its pretty good size and beefy so it might be a little too large for the rails, but I have never looked at that....if you do that, post some pics. I would be interested in seeing it.
