I need to pull the factory fuel tank skid plate to hammer out a huge dent before installing an aftermarket Rubicon Express skid. Has anyone removed the factory skid plate and if so is there enough ‘extra’ electrical and fuel line to drop the tank or does it need to be suspended?

Drop it when the tank is empty as it will make it easier. The skid holds the tank so just drop it a bit so you can reach in there and disconnect the wires and hoses. It helps if you buy the special tool that disconnects the fuel lines. these are what I am talking about. https://www.summitracing.com/nv/parts/wmr-w83149

If you get the tank really, really empty, not just close to E, but actually below E (and there will still be a couple of gallons of fuel in it) you can remove the skid and the tank will stay in place. No need to disconnect anything.

But if you still have several gallons of fuel in it, it will fall down on its own. Or you can work a couple of support straps under it before you remove the final bolts completely. Not easy without something stiff but flexible to fish the strap under the tank.

Thanks guys. It’s almost empty now (DTE is 30 miles) which means it’s got about 4-5 gallons in it. I’m gonna crawl under and check it out.
