Look like nicely designed little pockets that'll hold mud, dirt, and moisture really well. Should rust up great, Liam! :smile2:

You don't want something that fits up snug against your Jeep so it isn't smearing mud or dirt up and down your leg every time you get in and out? Or wetting the backside of your leg every time you get in/out when it rains?

We work with Westin for almost a Decade and their products proved to be very reliable throughout the years. We selected them for our Jeep mostly because of the drop rail design, which protects the rocker and the upper step itself from the rocks and looks pretty cool.

In fact, the step doesn't fit flush to the rocker panel and there is a gap (I found a better picture for you guys).
The snow builds up a little, but when it melts it easily goes through the openings in the step and through the gap between the step and the body, as for the dirt, I didn't notice any heavy build ups during the ride outs, so I'd say it's not worse than other similar steps for JK. We installed the steps last fall and they hold up nicely.
