Found out that I will be moving to the UK with the US Air Force. I plan on bringing my JK with me but have heard that I will be required to make some changes in order to drive it there. Does anyone have any information on the changes that I will have to make once I get there. If possible I would like to have some things in place prior to shipping my Jeep to England.

Amber turn signals for the rear was the all I needed to do, but that was 20 years ago.... You should be able to get in touch with your sponsor, or the LE desk at your gaining base and they will be able to tell you all you need to know... Good Luck in the UK and Thank You for your service, Cheers

Don't forget headlamp beam deflectors, since we drive on the other side of the road.

I thought US military who brought their private vehicles over here were exempt from our vehicle build specs to some degree?

Somebody at the UK base should be able to advise you.

Will it be the Mildenhall Camp? I know there are some Jeepers there who attend some of the UK Jeeping club events.

I was at Mildenhall about 7 years ago. You are better off just letting them take care of it when you get there. You will be given some time to get it done. Its not expensive to let the guys on base take care of it. Should just be amber turn lamps, Light deflectors (which they will probably just put tape on your headlights) and some vehicles needed a red fog light in the back. At the time, I drove a Chevy Blazer and didnt need that red light. I never understood why some vehicles got it when otheres didnt. They do other checks just like you would have back here ie make sure you have a cat converter, emergency brake works (you will probably have to adjust the Jeep's), on and on...

Get ready for the expensive part though...there road tax is outragious. Vehicle insurance is high too, was for me at least on a clean record.

Well there aren't to many JK's on the roads over here.
I can drive for weeks or months before seeing another.
Guess it makes mine some what 'exclusive':D

Yep as someone mentioned in another post, you'll love the road tax.
£405 for mine, 2.8 CRD and probably going up as the Govts bust for cash.
Wonder if you'll get a cheaper rate being a 'visitor'.
Your 3.8L will help to quench the Govt. fuel tax vampires thirst a little I guess.
Have a good time sight seeing on your time off.
