Took the family from El Paso, TX to Monticello Canyon, NM to do some wheeling. It is about a 2.5 hour ride from El Paso. I have read on a few websites that this 17 mile long trail has over 100 water crossings. I will admit that I did not keep count, but it was not 100. The number of water crossings in March was more like 20 to 30. Anyway, the trail is really easy, more of a road with water than an trail. I made it the whole way in 2 wheel drive and barley got my axles wet (this can change with the seasons).
On the the last 1/4 mile of the trail you end up in a canyon with water (fed by hot springs) running through it. The water is warm and the view is awesome. Lots of history in this place, Victorio bathed in these rivers and Geronimo was captured near the end of the Canyon.
