We just got a 2016 Unlimited Rubicon and will slowly build it up on 37". Want good tires for Mud and that will be good on the road as well as this will be a daily driver and on the trail about 6-10 times a year. Through everything rock, mud, sand, snow, ice etc...
has to be Radial because of our daily and will be on Beadlocks. So far been looking at:
-Irock Radial,
-Irock ND,
-Pit Bull Rocker XOR LT Radial
-BFG KM2
-Toyo M/T
-Maxxis Creepy Crawler
-Maxxis Trepador Radial

Mud tires are built for mud, not really that great for everything else. what you want is a AT tire that has a good mud rating. The problem is there are not many AT tire in the 37" size. The generally are a E rated tire as well, not good in the rocks. Grabber and NITTO have some new models coming out this fall that might fit your but there are no reviews on them yet.

We have Irok ND's on our TJ and like em both on and off-road. rumble a bit at 120klm an hr but not bad

These tires are not on your list but nitto trail grapplers and cooper stt pros have outstanding road manners. Ive been running the nittos for 20k miles and there is barely any ware. Ive driven my buddys jk with the coopers and they are smooth as butter. Both these tires compared to my old mtrs feel like road tires. They are also both D rated which is just fine for a jk aired down to 26-28 pounds. Just because it has MT and not AT in the description doesnt mean it has to be only used for mud and drives like crap on the street. Yes an AT is more practical as more time will be spent on the street than trail but when im on the trail I want my equipment to be up to the task. There are a lot more road friendly MTs on the market today in the 37" flavor than there was when I started getting into the offroad game

I've been extremely happy overall with my Interco SSRs. Excellent in the mud, dirt, rocks, deep snow, and sand. Decent on ice and on the road (way better than I expected here). The only con is the rubber compound is pretty soft and I've had some pitting and chunking after hard use in the rocks, but this is to be expected to some extent and I've never had a sidewall puncture. Also they're pretty noisy, but if you're considering Iroks my guess is noise is not an issue for you. They are not easy to balance - will need to check your air pressure and balance/rotate often. Do that and they should wear evenly and last a while - I have over 50K miles on mine and they still have a little life left in them!

been running my STT Pro's for over a year, more than 26k miles. I have a 2 dr so I run them at 26 on the street. Beat the tar out of them on the trail, they have not let me down yet.

60K Nitto Trail Grappler M/T

Ive had the nitto trail grappler M/T on my 08 unlimited for three years now 35x12.50x18 . ive been all over the place, trips to Colorado up and over the Hoosier pass during Christmas , out to sedona AZ in the middle of the summer and lot of wheeling in OKC area. i drive around 40 miles a day for my work commute and the tires have done great. i just had them rotated yesterday at discount tire and they were surprised how well they have done . i could probably go another year on them. i would recommend them to anybody. they have performed great in every situation .

I just put the new general grabber x3's (315/70r17) on my 2014 JKUR yesterday. So far love the look, feel, and drivability of them. Will be doing some more trials with them here in the near future. I have a 50 mile round trip to work everyday so they will see plenty of on-road use. They yielded right at 34.5" mounted on my stock rubicon wheels with spidertrax 1.5" spacers. So far extremely happy. Will update as I get some time with them.

I have a 50 mile round trip to work everyday so they will see plenty of on-road use. They yielded right at 34.5" mounted on my stock rubicon wheels with spidertrax 1.5" spacers. Any pics we could see I'm interested in the new X3's also.. how have they performed so far?

Yea can def get some on here. Haven't had a chance to really get them out on any trails. But have had sometime with them on the pavement. So far performing amazing. Will get a quick right up later.

Since this question is like asking blonde vs red head... I'll toss my hat in.


I really like the Cooper STT Pro that I am running. It looks great, performs awesome off-road and on the highway. They handle, rock crawling and mud as long as you aren't into bottomless mud holes!


I am also really enjoying the look and performance of the BFG AT KO2. While not a MT, it's a tire that can do all of the road work you want, rock crawl like a champ, handle all of the overland/trail work you could hope for and with some revs will get you through modest levels of mud. I believe this is about the very best "jack of all, master of none" tire that is on the planet earth. Think of it as the KLR650 of Jeep/Truck tires!

i can back @larry0071 up on his comments about the BFG T/A KO2 ; in 37" x12.50x17 and at 12.4psi they are like bulletproof silly putty. Aired up after these images to 24.5psi ,then you can drive home at 85-90mph on freeway safely and sans noise. These have about 15k on them and have lost about 2/32of tread which is unheard of . Anything - even mud - thrown at them they can handle .
The compound is witchcraft or sorcery , I have decided 'cause I can't chunk or cut them . A great great tire. :jeep2:

What made you get the 315/70/17 vs the available 35/12.5/17? Crazy question but both sizes are offered. Also how is the on road ride and wet handling. I have BFG KM2 and when it rains it is like World Rally Championship.

Honestly it was the fact I was using the stock rims. My local tire shop wouldn't mount the 35/12.5/17s because of the stock rim width. Didn't really make a whole lot of sense to me but it was a policy thing apparently. I was pleasantly surprised that they came out to 34.5 when mounted. I also have yet to install my lift (hopefully going on this weekend) and the 35/12.5 would have been little tighter. Trimmed the rock rails and now no issues. Price also was a a little less as well. As far as performance I could not be happier. There is a subtle hum/drone at around 45-50 but not bad at all. I feel like my stock BFG M/ts were much louder. Wet weather has been minimum around here since I've had them but had a little rain today and while it threw up some good roosts wouldn't say it was terrible. Could also be the fact that I have minimal fenders and just a rear frame cover (no rear bumper). Hope that helps.

Odd.
A 315/70-17 is 12.4" wide x 34.4" tall.
So the 0.1" less width made them feel comfortable on a stock width rim?

on a side-note ; when you mentioned not having experienced much inclimate weather 'around here' of-late, I had to look beneath your avatar to see where you were. One of my wife and my favorite cities is Savannah ( we're from Marietta & Decatur )& we used to drive her '91 YJ from there to Tybee / Jeckyll Island /St Simons annually . I don't miss that trip in a soft top leaf sprung Jeep but man do I miss that beautiful section of the country . Surprised to hear you've not had rain as y'all get fairly reg fronts from Atlantic? Anyway... old guy recollection. Sorry to clutter the thread. Glad ya like your new tires ! TBH , those Grabber X3 look very similar to the older STT Discoverer from Cooper as far as tread pattern ...that was a fabulous 317/70r tire I ran for a year ...quiet for an MT and tough e rated carcass :jeep2:
