looking for fabricator

Hey guys, anyone know any good fabricators in the NYC/LI area? I bought an AEV tire carrier and found out that hard way that it won't fit a 15" wheel. I need to have the wheel mount offset by about an inch for the tire carrier to work properly. Otherwise, there will be a brand new AEV tire carrier posted in the for sale section soon. haha.

Thanks.

Hey john good to hear from you. I have seen the AEV carrier and I know what you are talking about. The problem with offsetting the wheel is that you will need to add a spacer block to the tube (the one the tire sits against) as well. This will hold the tire tight otherwise it will wobble.
Did you get bumper and carrier or just carrier?

Was that you Demitri on the Southern State last night heading east around 231?

I got in touch with Evan today and he's pretty familiar with the AEV setup. The general plan is to offset the wheel mount (or tire) towards the driver side to clear the bracket. It turns out that they didn't design for a 15" wheel because most wheels that size do not fit on the JK.

I just got he carrier because it could be used with the stock bumper. Now that it's installed, I'm thinking that it would look much cleaner with the AEV bumper too. haha

Can't you just put a wheel spacer on the tire carrier? I went that route with the Rancho carrier and it worked great. Solid bolts and only 1.5" extension, unlike the huge adapters they sell.

I have a single Spidertrax spacer if you're interested.

I'd have to put spacers at 3 points on the tire carrier. The tire sidewalls need to be right up against those 3 points. I don't think a wheel spacer at the tire mount would help. The wheel would have to be offset downwards and maybe to towards the driver side.

Bracket interfering with wheel

Tire contacts the carrier at the top, but not the bottom because of the bracket.

Cool! Tell him I said hi, and remind him I gave you his number. This way next time I have him change my tranny fluid he won't run scared ;)

Anyone have a tie rod to spare? My troubles continue...

I got my front track bar relocation bracket today, but it goes on the upper end of the tie rod (frame end, driver's side). Also found out my holes on the axle mounts had widened up some, giving the lower track bar bolt room to move around. So, I really need the LOWER, axle end track bar relocation bracket.

I called Evan to see if he had one, and we got talking a bit, asked if I had gotten the toe checked, which I hadn't. So I started checking it myself...found I had some toe-out. So there I am adjusting the tie rod, and BOOM. The last turn on the wrench and the adjusting collar and this happened:

So anyone got a tie rod? LOL...pissed :)

I've got a spare, it's a little bent, but could be unbent or just toe it in some more. The turnbuckle moves freely, moved it quite a bit in it's 48k life and lots of anti-seize everytime I turned it.

Dimitri 347 751 3032 call me up.

What you can also do it weld some nice thick washers to take up the slack on the ovaled trackbar holes. That, or completely cut off the OEM mount and get a new thicker, better trackbar axle mount.

Thanks to Dimitri I'll have a tie rod later tonight...good talking to you man! See you in a bit...

Very good to meet you Dimitri, thanks for coming by man! Delivery service, too, I was impressed! Good bullshitin', too of course :)

Good news is that I don't have death wobble anymore - WOOO! I was able to get the trackbar extension bracket in, and since Dimitri dropped off his old OEM tie rod I ripped mine out and got it in and all adjusted at around 1/4 after midnight tonight. Took it driving, and no more death wobble.

Tomorrow I have to re-adjust the draglink and center my steering wheel, lol. After that it's a couple of minor, preventative maint. stuff...the driver's side u-joint, a ball joint (yea, there's one stragler that hasn't been done haha), and that should be it.

Hmmm. Wheelin', anyone...ANYONE?

Is anyone planning to attend Rausch over Easter weekend? I'm debating attending, could be swayed to attend with a group.

BB texted me about it on Monday, and I am planning on going. I'd really like to, and to do it with some people I know would be great. I think a few local friends of mine from the Sayville/Bayport area are also planning on that weekend, so we'll see how it progresses!
