with a stock dana 30 front and 44 rear im running 5:13 gears
what makes a 37" harder on axles the weight of the tire or the diameter or both.

I currently have Pro comp XT AT 35 1250 17 that will need replacing in 6 months.

also I noticed that there are 1350 width available in addition to the standard 1250, i know they look better but must be heavyer worse for the axles than the 1250 width.

95% street driven 15000mi a year, I do not bounce this thing around at all.

Any tire I would consider could not be excessively loud or wear fast.
anyone have tire weights on the more popular 17 1250 37"

I had posted the exact weight from emailing the manufacturer on this topic. 37s big AT was about 36.3 and 69 lbs. km2 is 36.7 at 71-72 lbs. these are the lightest by far others into the 85 lbs

BFG 37 the lightest?

I know the BFG AT tires have been around for years and last forever on the road, how do the km2,s last or wear on pavement, the AT tires may look a bit to tame or odd in that large size.

I am thinking that a light 37 may not be any harder on the axles than a heavy 35" or am I looking at the wrong criteria.

Any other good wearing aggresive looking tires that are not excessivly heavy

I get this question a lot and my outlook on it is you can break the same axle with 35s that you can break with 37s.

The 37s are all going to be roughly the same weight and the variances in weight aren't enough to buy a tire you won't be happy with.

I would recommend a Nitto Trail Grappler MT for a very tame and road friendly tire or a Falken Wild Peak if you're into the AT idea.

I run 37" MTRs on a D30 front end that is not locked but has 5.13 gears and Nitro upgraded axle shafts. It is also sleeved and gusseted but the ring and pinion proved to be the weak point on mine.

Pick a tire and don't drive like a man on a rampage and you should be fine. I am not easy on my Jeep in the least and it has been fine with two sets of 35s and two sets of 37s until the ring gear stripped.

HOWEVER - I've spoken to a few folks who have stripped the same gears I have in a number of different situations. Could be something to do with that. Good thing the warranty was good. ;)

not sure about differences in the 37" flavor but in the 40" flavor there is a significant difference... like 12lbs a tire between them and my Nitto MG's.

What seems to be the issues with the MTR goodyear they do not seem to be liked by many, are they loud or wear badly

The 37" MTR w/ K on my white jeep were lighter than my 35" Nitto Trail Grapplers.

But I like my Trail Grapplers more and would buy them in 37s if I ever go that route again.

That all being said. The weight doesn't matter that much.
Going to disagree, JP magazine stated that for every 10 lbs in tire weight that equals 100 lbs in vehicle weight bc of the rotating weight. So basically 10lbs additional weight is 400 lbs added to your jeep. That also makes the crow hop on rocks make the axle gears go boom bc of more rotating weight behind it. A lighter 37 would be better.

Now for a heavy 35 or light 37. Lighter is better from reason above but a larger circumference puts added leverage or stress on components because the axle acts like a fulcrum.

So there is a great debate on weight vs size. Def go light tire but 35 or 37 that is the question. Heavy 37s and bang goes the dynamite lol

My 37" MTR's weighed 69 pounds when they shipped to me. Pretty light for a 37.

I have had two sets of MTR's, 35's and 37's. Both balanced well and had very nice road manners. I would say they are on the low end of road noise but they are a large, M/T type tire...they will make noise and more so as they wear. Oh, and I rotate at every oil change, that helps a lot.

Is that 36.7 a height measurement for the KM2? If so, that has got to be unmounted. Those things are a notoriously short tire for their size.

Being so light might be one of the causes of the tires not holding up worth shit when wheeling.... Tons of the local guys here have destroyed the KM2's, specifically the sidewalls.

I completely understand but this is also situational.

If you are just a casual wheeler and use your jeep more to make camping more remote or provide utility in adverse weather the weight isn't as big of an issue as other things.

I should rephrase my statement as.

"The weight doesn't matter that much for how I use my Jeep."

I forgot to mention In michigan I would see more snow than mud.

no one mentions DC fun country tires, it is a 1350 width though

I see cooper tires at reasonable prices on some of the online sites

Have a friend that runs the Cooper SST(?), he's cut the sidewall on three different occasions, he's not real happy w them.
