Let's talk water proof bags.

This year it came time to retire our Rage Powersports waterproof rolling duffle bags. After 8 years of use supporting a family of 4 they finally gave up and said no more. From the looks of it, they no longer make water proof bags which is unfortunate as they were pretty decent bags for what you paid for them (less than $70).

That said, I'm hoping that maybe someone out there maybe has a suggestion or can point me in the direction of water proof bags large of enough to handle 3-4 people on one trip. The bag we had (pictured) was a 30" rolling duffle so hoping to find something similar at a price point that won't break the bank.

Not sure what breaks your bank, but I've been using Grundens bags for years. High-end in my opinion. No wear issues or leakage issues to date with the various ones I own. They get packed full of gear and end up in the open back of my jeep or truck … or on the roof rack of my lil' campin' trailer. Only issue is not very pliable in single-digit weather. Here's an example:

I steer clear of the Cabela's brand. Not sure who makes them for Cabela's but they don't seem as durable in my opinion. I'd also shy away from any bag that doesn't have a true roll top for closure.

Look into motorcycle luggage, especially for the touring motorcycles. Not all are waterproof, but you can certainly find ones that are.

Some may balk at the price but I use Watershed bags frequently with zero issues. They use a ziplock closure. I paddle weekly year around in whitewater and they’ve never leaked. They see rock and sand and get thrown in my Tacoma under and over my shuttle bike in the bed. Chain grease and all they show no signs of abrasion. My bags are the “civilian” models, I haven’t felt the need to upgrade to the military grade equipment. I know others using Bills Bags from NRS for years without issue, but they’re top access duffles (Like Army Duffle) and probably a poor choice for what a traveling family would use it for.

Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully I can track something down in the next few months before we head back to Colorado again. The challenge I think is going to be finding something large enough that can serve as alternative luggage for us. The bag we had was nice because it was large (about the size of a 65qt Arb Fridge), had wheels and a handle to pull it along.

The hanging question would be whether they carry something large enough that can be a replacement for traditional luggage.
