Thinking of heading to leadville this weekend to hike Mt. Elbert... 2nd highest peak in the USA... I was wondering if anyone here has ever been?? Were taking the JK and from what I have read there is a nice 4x4 trails system there as well...

If anyone wants to join us were totally down for more folks.... Any information is greatly appreciated!!!

Does anyone know of a good 20-30mile backpacking trip that allows dogs? We're trying to find a few good 2-3 day hikes that traverse through forest, mountains and streams...

I LOVE THIS STATE!!!

The only place you can't take dogs is RMNP (or any National Park). Best check first but I always take our dogs on hikes.

Twin Lakes just south of Leadville is also a good place to fish if you are in to that. No camping on this lake though :(. Elbert is the big mountain in this pic.

I have more pics of the area but am in the process of moving my website so can't post links right now.

If you are looking for good short hikes check out the Colorado Trail. Its accessable from the road and you can hike in relatively short segments.
Sweet!!! Thanks Alec... You wouldn't have that camping GPS waypoint would you??:D That looks perfect!!! Were hoping to get down there by 7-8pm and set up a quick camp at the trail head. There is a 4x4 trail that you need a jeep to get to the closest trail head. Cannot wait for this hike!! Were going to take Saturday night and Sunday night and find a sweet spot just like your pic Alec.. Any info is greatly appreciated!!

Oh and anyone is welcome to join us..

Well here is the report...

The town of Leadville isn't the purtiest.. The claim to fame is the miners hall of fame. Downtown is cute, however the surrounding area is STUNNING! 4 14,000 ft. peaks in a matter of miles and loads of back country jeepin. We had a blast... The only problem was tearing the front drive shaft boot. I guess its time to upgrade to a 1310.. Any suggestions on brand? I have a 3" lift by Poly performance with adj. front control arms...

We ended up hiking Mt. Elbert and camping on the jeep trail with an amazing view. The pic with the jeep against the mountains was our camping spot. Mt. Elbert is the 2nd highest peak in the USA besides Alaska and Mt. Whitney in CA. 14,551 ft. 4500ft. elevation gain in less than 4 miles... We had a blast and my legs feel it..

I feel your pain and think you may be catching me up for time in the shop. When do you get it back?

really? damn! should be back soon! I will be staying away from water though lol
Can't wait to hear the story man!!!:beer:
nothing exciting, drove into some water. Not that deep and not that fast. In my opinion was a safe speed and depth. took an unlucky splash somehow. Ingested enough water to hydrolock the engine and bent a rod. So had to have a new engine put in

When I got to looking at the intake and engine bay, it seems obvious it is a bad design. Only thing I can figure out is the fan probably kicked enough water up that it followed the curve of the hood directly into the intake.

:shaking:
That really sux man!!! What did a new engine cost ya? To bad there isn't a V8 or something to drop in besides the HEMI swap..
well the bill was about $6k but, luckily my insurance covered it so it was only my deductible. If I would have flipped the bill myself it could have been done way cheaper!

Oh well at least you get a new engine!! Worth the price of a deductable...

Gotta do that break in period again... No power until after 6k... Let me know when your down for a run...
