Is it just my Jeep, or is the output of this port almost non-existent? Using a known good USB cable, my phone doesn't seem to charge when plugged into it.

Am ordering up a USB V/A meter to measure the output...

Yeah it's for connectivity only, output is actually negligible. You'll need to use the 12v plug (with a quick charger!) or the inverter (with a quick charger!) to get anything out of the jeep. I wired up an additional 12v socket behind the dash to handle phone duty, plus it keeps the one on the dash clean.

Huh. Very interesting! My salesman pointed out the in-console socket and made a point of saying "if you want to charge your phone fast, use this one because it is like twice as fast as the other one". Like a maroon, I believed him.

I leave my 32gb thumbdrive in it with a bunch of MP3s. Never got anything to charge off of it - makes sense now. Nice thing is that with my UConnect, I can voice control the thumbdrive by requesting songs, artists, or folders...

I got a couple 12v USB chargers for my various devices (my and passenger phones, GPS, dash cam) and have one in the back of the console so my kiddos can charge their devices too.

Are you talking about battery packs, or something you connected into the Jeep electrical system?

I have this in front https://www.amazon.com/Rocketek-Charger-Adapter-Cigarette-Splitter/dp/B00L14B4GI/ref=sr_1_14

and one like this (different model I couldn't find) in back https://www.amazon.com/Cigarette-Lighter-Splitter-3-Socket-Powerful/dp/B01J7KTBEE/ref=pd_sim_107_5 attached to a VDP trash can/cup holder insert https://www.quadratec.com/products/14139_1101_07.htm

I wanted a setup that was 100% removable while I determined the needs and long-term plan... the solution has worked very well so far.
