Had some steel sitting around and wanted to get that heavy 35 off the back. Just rounded the corners on the steel plate then used the OEM tire carrier for a templet so I could line up the bolts. Cleaned it up and gave it some paint. Pretty stoked on how it turned out. Might add a light of some sort or put my license plate on it.

Vent

Yes you are right. When the top goes on I am thinking about putting 2 cuts in it were the vent is. I have enough airflow though with the hard top. Not air tight at all.

You could put some nylon washers between the plate and the tailgate. That way you wouldn't have to cut any slots in the plate and you would still let air flow out of the vent. Looks good, nice work sir.

Or you could get some 1/2" wide/ thick foam with stick on the back side and just go around 3 sides(left, top, right). That way you'll get the transfer air space, it won't have any chance to rattle, and water won't enter from the top.
