The minimum you will need is new pinion nuts, pinion seals and crush sleeves. You should also use new ring gear bolts.

I reused the bearings on mine, and one of the pinion bearings failed 7k miles later. You can reuse the bearings, but they need to be removed and treated gently. I used a master install kit (overall kit) when I had the bad pinion bearing replaced, 10k later and no problems so far.

If you have never done it yourself i wouldn't try it.

If you don't have anything useful to say, then don't post.

I'm putting a set of these axles under a TJ and need to know what parts to get since what I've read so far say they use a few proprietary parts that can only be gotten from the dealership.

I don't know buddy, but that seems like some pretty useful info really. I mean, if you have never done R&P before, i wouldn't recommend trying it on a 20-30 thousand dollar vehicle.
Now i am not saying you have never done it before, you didn't mention your experience, i was just makeing a generalized statment, and i think most would agree.


Install kit is all you REALLY need, overhaul kits give you a little more than neccassary, but some like that fact and peace of mind.

How many miles are on the axles? Are you changing the carriers? Are they Rubicon axles or not? I've done a few Rubicon gear swaps with low miles and have just changed the pinion nut, crush sleeve and ring gear bolts. I bought all the parts from the dealer at about $30 total. I have done 3 gear swaps with Superior gears and have not had to change the pinion shim from stock. Overall it was pretty easy, the final torque of the pinion nut to crush the crush sleeve was a *****, I had to make a special tool to hold the yoke.

The axles in my Jeep TJ Rubicon have already been regeared. I am putting JK Rubicon axles into my Jeep TJ and selling my current axles. Whether or not I know how to swap gears is irrelevant. I just need to know if there are any special parts that I'll have to get from the dealer that won't come with the install kit. When I swapped gears in my TJ the install kit included everything, but I've heard from a few people that the JK's require going to the dealer to get a few pieces in order to install the new gears.

Axles are brand new, just ordered them from jeepsareus actually and I haven't gotten them yet. I am using the factory Rubicon lockers for now. Are there any solid spacers available to use instead of the crush sleeve? And you wouldn't know if I could get a standard 1330 or 1350 D44 yoke on those diffs would you?

Drew I need to get some info from you about your coilover shock mounting kits for TJ's in a bit, what's the best way to get in touch? PM on one of the boards?

Since those axle are brand new I wouldn't change any of the bearings or pinion seal, the pinion seal is expensive and you dont even need to take the carrier bearings off the locker. I would just get new ring gear bolts, crush sleeve and pinion nut. You would also need to get some carrier bearing shims, those axles just use one thick one per side, the dana 44 ARB shims work. I dont know think anyone makes a solid pinion spacer, the front would be difficult because it is stepped but the rear is pretty straight forward. I made a solid spacer with some tubing on the lathe when we first put some gears in before superior made install kits and I didnt have time to order a new crush sleeve. I didnt use shims though, just made it the right length.

You can put regular yokes on the axles but you need a special slinger, I would call JE Reel, Jim would know all the details and would have parts to send you.

Be carefull with the locker sensors, there is a sensor behind the carrier that pulls open when the locker is engaged to operate the dash light. Make sure they are in before you put the carrier in and there is a notch in the coil on the carrier to clear the sensor, if you bolt it down not in the notch it will bend the senser and it will be f'd. You dont have to remove the rear sensor but you will have to remove the front one to get the pinion out since it is a high pinion.
